    thanks

    I've been looking for a dictionary that displays well on the Pre browser (don't love trying to scroll around the M-W dictionary) and found the freedictionary.org. Not exactly a "mobile" site, but the columns are a nice width and look pretty good if you double-tap them.

    Here's my additions for Universal Search:

    'dictionary':$L("http://freedictionary.org/?Query="),

    {id:"dictionary",title:"FreeDictionary",imgFile:"images/search-dictionary.png", showImage:"block", showName:"none"},

    and there's a nice PNG logo here:

    If you're still looking, Dictionary.com's mobile site works good. And if you use the iPhone user agent patch, Merriam Webster's iPhone site works even better. Not sure why they limit it to iDevices, but whatever...

    Can someone update the wiki with this new info?

    I believe the image size has been changed to 200x52 instead of 200x44. If you use the latter, the image will look blurry from being stretched out.

    Thanks ... Dictionary.com does look pretty good on the Pre browser, and the query syntax looks like it's easy and compatible. May have to switch to that one.

    I'm in the process of updating the wiki to reflect the changes to the source code made in 1.3.1

    I think google's is the most powerful:

    'dictionary':$L("http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=define:"),

    That doesn't seem to display very well for me, the columns are too wide and font too small. No way to get it formatted for a small screen? I was looking for something that formatted nicely on a mobile screen and didn't require zooming/panning.

    I like Google's becuase of its power... it almost always guess the correct word if you spell it wrong and it gives multiple definitions (with links to the supporting site).

    If you wanted something a little more pretty, then Google may not be for you. If you want to sacrifice some of Google's power you can use their mobile site to get a little bit better GUI.

    'dictionary':$L("http://www.google.com/m?source=mobileproducts&dc=gorganic#/m/search?uipref=6&q=define:"),

    It will still guess the correct word if you spell it wrong, but will only return one definition... rather than a whole list.

    ok, so now is this stuff the same in 1.3.5? I have my updated 1.3.1 documents sitting on my desktop, so can I do the same thing again? Are those pictures still there in that file I sent them to?

    answer - yes seems to work fine tho idk if its the best way to do it anymore

    The global search source code was not modified in 1.3.5 so the pictures you put there will still be there. You just need to replace the global-search-assistant.jsjsjs file with your edited one.

    Just remember that this is where the file is located: /usr/lib/luna/system/luna-applauncher/app/controllers/global-search-assistant.jsjsjs

    I just want to share some of what I'm using...

    dictionary.com mobile search --- img attached
    Code:
    http://m.reference.com/d/search.html?q=
    thesaurus.com mobile search --- img attached
    Code:
    http://m.reference.com/t/search.html?q=
    amazon moblie search url ---I liked this one better.
    Code:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/s/ref=is_box_touch_/189-1896640-6687140?k=
    ebay mobile search url ---
    Since the option for the regular site is at the bottom of each page, I liked this one better.
    Code:
    http://m.ebay.com/Pages/SearchResults.aspx?emvAD=320x480&sv=

    I'm not sure if this will help anyone...

    I noticed if I use the Google Maps url listed on the Global Search Addons Collection wiki page tapping the Google Maps issues a blank web page prior to opening a separate card for the Google Maps webapp...

    It would appear it's best to omit the url from this.URLs in the global-search-assistant.jsjsjs $file$ $because$ $simply$ $leaving$ $the$ id as "map" within this.searchEngineList opens the search directly in the Google Maps webapp.

    Don't include the url here (probably @ line 47):
    Code:
            this.URLs = {
                'google':$L("www.google.com/m/search?client=ms-palm-webOS&channel=iss&q="),
            };
    Here's where the id is (around line 129 to 133):
    Code:
            this.searchEngineList = [{id:"google",title:"Google",imgFile:"images/Search_google.png", showImage:"block", showName:"none"},
                                     {id:"map",title:"Google Maps",imgFile:"images/Search_googlemaps.png", showImage:"block", showName:"none"},
                                    ];
    There's code later in the global-search-assistant.jsjsjs $file$ $that$ $takes$ $care$ $of$ $opening$ ($around$ $line$ $1345$ $to$ $1349$) &$amp$; $searching$ ($around$ $line$ $1488$ $to$ $1492$) $the$ $map$ $which$ $uses$ $the$ id.

    Code:
        launchMap: function(querytext){
    Code:
            if (url == "map"){

    hmm, ok so i have my customized global-search-assistant and global-search files on my desktop (with the originals somewhere else in my computer). so like i said, after i updated to 1.3.5, i sent the custom files to my device, and everything worked fine. after that, i started having patch problems, and ended up doctoring my pre (which still didn't get rid of one of the scrim patches that isnt even working??). and i sent my custom files to the pre again...and it wiped out all my icons in my launcher? and my pages, i was left with just one. i doctored again, and got everything back..but i dont know whats going on. im going to try sending the custom files again after work and see what happens. any similar problems out there?

    update: sent my custom global-search-assistant.jsjsjs $file$ $to$ /$usr$/$lib$/$luna$/$system$/$luna$-$applauncher$/$app$/$controllers$ $and$ $the$ $same$ $thing$ $happened$...$no$ $universal$ $search$, $no$ $launcher$ $icons$, $no$ $contacts$. $everything$ $should$ $be$ $put$ $right$ $after$ $i$ $finish$ $this$ $doctor$ $again$. $anyone$ $kno$ $why$ $my$ $phone$ $is$ $doing$ $this$?
