This morning my Pre showed that it wanted to run an update. I was all excited thinking I was about to get v1.3. Well it ended up rerunning the 1.2.1 update and I subsequently lost all of the patches that I installed with Preware.

I know other users have experienced similar behavior, but why would this happen so late in the game for me?

Did Palm detect something on my phone that it didn't like and so it pushed this update to my phone?

Furthermore everyone always says to uninstall all patches before running an update but nothing bad has seemed to happen (again I only apply patches via Preware).

I don't know if this is relevant but the other day I left my Pre on over night (not charging) and I had Pandora open (on pause). Suffice to say the next morning the battery was dead and I had to recharge it / reboot it.

If my phone ever hiccups, I am replacing it.

this has been covered by multiple threads. One of the tweaks or patches you've applied edited something on the phone in a directory that it should not. You got the update message to update back to 1.2.1 because its trying to correct itself as it feels as though there is an issue with your OS. Unfortunately you will need to webos DR.

Updating with the patches installed will cause issues, in fact i belive you will find Preware cannot remove the patches that you have installed at this point. If that is the case again a webos dr is your only choice to restore it back to OEM. This info is coming from a PALM Authority who has tweeted about it. (THANKS CHUQ!)

I think I read your issue right...you were on 1.2.1 prior to getting this new update request right?

Now that I got my sarcastic comment out of the way...

Have you tried any of the fixes found on PreCentral to correct the issue?

Also, removing patches is recommended by just about everyone, so do it. However, being the rebel that I am, I have never done that and my phone still works fine.

I tried that as well pogeypetey, the issue I ran into not being able to remove the patches via preware, I keep getting a chunk error....maybe it was a preware issue....are you able to remove stuff after updating with your patches in place?

Yes. I got a little too excited when updating and left all patches in place. Plus I had the leaked 1.2 installed as well. I had no problems whatsoever.

The patches aren't really there anymore, they're just in the ipkg database. Since they're not really there anymore there's nothing to remove (which is why you get the chunk error).

The reason I find this odd is because I had WebOs v1.2.1 since it first came out (several weeks ago). At that time I installed a bunch of patches via Preware and I havnt installed anything since. Then out of the blue this happens to me?!

the same thing happened to me with the update...thought I was getting 1.3. I managed to remove the patches with webOSquickinstall. It showed the chunk errors upon removal but I was able to reinstall all of the patches again with preware...all of my patches are working fine.
