Well that's the thing, I'm not below 100 mb (I'm at 122), and I have moved email - or at least I told it to, and it acted like maybe it did, but it told me it couldn't restore ownership on all of the messages.

Would be great if a few 'followers' could test 0.3.3 as I plan to release this to PreWare repository by Sunday.

It has a nice new 'search' function that makes it much easier to manage apps in Terminal by supplying partial app names. If no appname is supplied, it will loop through all apps.

    IE...
    Code:
    mvapp search ace
    (or shortcut)
    m s ace

    Found....
    Card Ace
    com.selfawaregames.cardace.holdem

App is currently linked to media.

Would you like to link/unlink/clean/skip this app? [l/u/c/S/q]: s

    ---------------------

    Found....
    Word Ace
    com.selfawaregames.wordace

App is currently linked to media.

Would you like to link/unlink/clean/skip this app? [l/u/c/S/q]: q

Install by pasting this into Linux. Note that you need to use 'ma' instead of 'mvapp' as the command for test versions.

    Code:
    mount -o remount,rw /
    cd /tmp
    wget http://gitorious.org/webos-internals/mvapp/blobs/raw/master/mvapp
    chmod 755 mvapp
mv mvapp /usr/local/bin/ma #or name to whatever you'd like, using ma as shortcut
    ma
I've added another new undocumented function in 0.3.3c, 'mvapp dev', which will install the latest development version per the above. When released, it will be that easy to install future test versions.

Please paste (or summarize) the results of 'mvapp doctor'.

Well, actually, I have "app used 26mb", so it must be other things taking up space. Maybe ipkg nonsense...

Does it show how much in /opt? How about 'var tmp used'? Is it 1MB or less? When doing 'mvapp ls', what are the largest apps still sitting on /var?

I just installed jTrivia and Fyzix (first time) then moved them with..

    mvapp bulkmv

Worked fine. I see you have test version installed, try again with 'ma bm'.

Yeah, same problem. I dunno. But like I say, doesn't look like the apps are the problem, but I'd still like to know what "special attributes" are causing the issue so that maybe I can fix it. I probably set some permissions to copy some files over not realizing it would have this effect.

Yea, maybe you set different permissions or ownership on the entire /var/usr/palm/applications? It doesn't copy sticky bits, apps with internal links or if ownership is not root. There might be other conditions. It's basically any attribute not supported by FAT fs.

has anyone figure out how to hide the png files use you use this patch?

The files are located in .apps in /media/internal. The . in .apps makes it hidden to the photo app, so shouldn't show the images. Have you manually copied over some apps to /media? If not in a . folder, the images will show up in photo app.

mvapp 0.3.4 was just released to PreWare. It should show up on PreWare later tonite or tomorrow.

    New features...
    - 'mvapp search' or 'm s' will allow you to search by partial app name, which is much easier in Terminal app. It will ask if you want to link/unlink/clean each found app.
    - 'mvapp dev' is an undocumented function that allows you to easily download future development versions of mvapp (dev versions are named as 'ma').
    - 'mvapp doc' or 'm d' now shows number of total apps, in var and in media. The report is now named 'varreport.rtf'.

Should show up on PreWare soon, or you can install via Linux as 'ma' by pasting...

    Code:
    mount -o remount,rw /
    cd /tmp
    wget http://gitorious.org/webos-internals/mvapp/blobs/raw/master/mvapp
    chmod 755 mvapp
mv mvapp /usr/local/bin/ma #or name to whatever you'd like, using ma as shortcut
    ma

Hmm. I'm not having that issue and others haven't reported it. Were you a very early user of mvapp, back in first week of Oct? It was copying to non-hidden folder back then but was fixed pretty quickly. Anyone else showing images from applications showing up in the Photo app?
  16. #356
hey xorg, great program! i downloaded an update to pandora as my first download from the app catalog in like a month.

some things I have run into:
not moved add-onscreen-keyboard (no json file)
    pdfviewer (special attributes)
    preware (special attributes)
    comics (special attributes)
    luna manager (special attributes)
    package manager service (special attributes)
where is my pre? (app was running, could not move)

also, the report of my mvapp doctor - I'm using 0.3.4,btw
    var used: 110 mb (44%)
    var avail: 138 mb
app used: 4 mb on /var
    # total apps: 107
    # var apps: 78
    # media apps: 29
email used: 24 mb on /var
attach used: 11 mb on /var
    var tmp used: 0 mb
    opt used: 31 mb

my question is, how does var used come up with 110 mb? The apps, email, attachments, and opt add up to 70 mb, so what occupies the other 40 mb?

    Thanks a lot!

btw, I moved my emails and attachments using mvapp linkemail and after it was done, it said that I would need to check if I could access my emails and that the first time I ran email app it would say "do you want to add account" and then to hit done. this did not happen for me and my emails were instantly available.

    just wanted to report it.

    thanks

The apps that could not move is normal. mvapp properly handled this by not moving them. I guess I'll need to indicate that this is properly handled, and not an 'error'.

On the remaining var usage, there are many other var directories other than what mvapp checks. mvapp only checks known problem areas, so they don't add up to the total var usage. Since this has confused others, I may show 'other var' usage in next version so that it adds up.
  20. #360
Does anyone have suggestions for other places in var to look for usage? With only 20 some mb of applications left, I still have over 100 mb used in var.
