You can create a script on the computer to run the command in the Pre terminal.

I'm not so Linux-savvy, the pre is actually my first real experience with linux..
Can you explain how to do so?

Use vi (or any other editor you choose) to create a file wherever you want (ie. vi filename). It doesn't need a file extension. Paste the code to restart the GUI. Save the file and then chmod the file to 777 (chmod 777 filename). If the file is in the current directory, you can execute it using './filename', without the quotes. I just saved the file in the root home directory since that's where you start when you log in.

Did you do "ipkg -o /var update" to get the latest package list?

    Thanks... plee3

Type "ipkg -o /var update" and it should populate the new version in the list.

Did you make your rootfs writeable before running the update command?

    i have done mount -o remount,rw /
i dont remember the rootfs command (for the life of me, its on the tip of my tongue)

its still not showing up in the list, and yes i did the ipkg -o /var update

edit: ok i got it to show up, i rebooted my pre and tried again and for some reason it came up.. this is what i got
    root@castle:/# ipkg -o /var install org.webosinternals.terminal
    Begin installation of org.webosinternals.terminal
Upgrading org.webosinternals.terminal on root from 0.1.3 to 0.1.4...
    Downloading http://ipkg.preware.org/feeds/prewar..._0.1.4_all.ipk
    Configuring org.webosinternals.terminal
(offline root mode: not running org.webosinternals.terminal.postinst)
should i reboot my pre again to get the new version running or is there a quicker way?
  13. #33
now its not letting me type anythign in the terminal from the pre
it comes up with the login screen and thats it. i cant type.
    ugh!

edit: ok what i did was remove the terminal and its plugin..
    rm /usr/lib/BrowserPlugins/termplugin.so
    /usr/bin/ipkg -o /var remove org.webosinternals.terminal
    /usr/bin/ipkg -o /var remove x-webosinternals-termplugin
after that i just did the install of the termplugin and terminal all over again, refreshed GUI and it works perfectly!

I have and love Preware, and just found terminal, which is a nifty thing to have. I guess I did stuff backwards... But I like the fact that I can root my phone without having to use the computer one, which constantly does not work, forcing me to reset both phone and computer. Both apps are great. Especially since that space saving app needed me to do some rooting, and this came in handy because I could do it from my phone... A few months late, but Thank You Very Much!!! Both apps are great!
Ooh, me likes... This app rox mah sox
    Thanks App Creators...
Thanx pre for making an OPEN phone!!!
This is the best thing one could do 2 a phone!
