When rooted, do I run all that code in putty?

    Will that work?

The way i did it is the following:

    - Gain root access
    - set file system as read/write
    - save a backup file of compose-assistant.jsjsjs $located$ $at$ /$usr$/$palm$/$applications$/$com$.$palm$.$app$.$email$/$app$/$controllers$
    - vi /usr/palm/applications/com.palm.app.email/app/controllers/compose-assistant.jsjsjs
    - go to line 602 (:602) and make changes so the code looks like the on the wiki.
    - save once done editing
    - return system to read only
    - reboot

Another way would be to copy the code on the wiki and make it into a patch and unpatch the file, but i'm not quite sure how to do that.

Man, that is beyond my scope...I am use to D2's copy and paste HOWTOS..

Which editor should I use for editing on an XP machine?

Also how do I set file system to read/write?

Not sure on the text editing yet, I'm still working on that myself.

However, to set it as read/write, type:

    mount -o remount,rw /

Then when you're done editing the code, it's important to mount as read-only:

    mount -o remount,ro /

    Hope this helps!

Palm needs to fix these bugs so that people who aren't Linux admins can make their phones work properly. I'm reasonably technical, but I don't have time to learn Linux so I can fix my phone.
