    Yes!

    Three questions:

How hard will it be to make this be an app?

Could the LED also show that you had a voicemail, email, calendar alarm, etc.?

There are three LED's. Could other LED's or combinations be controlled?

    1. Shouldn't be that hard (OP let me know if you need help)

    2. You could make it maybe have options in the app good idea for th OP.

    3. Yup just the same as the one he used in this Tweak

    Keegan99,
I would love to try this app.Is there any way you can package this in an ipk file so I can load it using the SDK.

    Agreed!

Also - the Pre has 3 led's correct? Could a combination of the 3 be used to ID the kind of message. Say for instance 1 for emails, 2 for texts, 3 for missed call?

I've kind of given up on this. After poring through the palm codebase, there's really no way to keep the LEDs on when the Pre isn't connected to a charger (usb or touchstone).

That's too bad....this would have been a "must have" hack...thanks for all your efforts thought!
  10. #70
For those of you asking for it, there isn't a way to use this hack without the webosinternals, which requires "rooting" to use, so any app that is made for this would simply be a front-end gui for controlling the hack.. it would still require "rooting".

Also, I dont know if this has been mentioned yet in this thread, but keep in mind that installation of the webosinternals package will enable ANY script to run with root privileges, which can be considered a serious security risk.

Has this patch been tested with 1.1?

is there a code for removal of this ???

Just for anyone else wondering on how to make a pleasant flashing fading LED:

    #!/bin/sh
    echo 00 >/sys/class/leds/core_navi_left/brightness
    echo 100 >/sys/class/leds/core_navi_center/brightness
    echo 00 >/sys/class/leds/core_navi_right/brightness
    sleep 1
    echo 80 >/sys/class/leds/core_navi_left/brightness
    echo 00 >/sys/class/leds/core_navi_center/brightness
    echo 80 >/sys/class/leds/core_navi_right/brightness
    sleep 1
    echo 00 >/sys/class/leds/core_navi_left/brightness
    echo 60 >/sys/class/leds/core_navi_center/brightness
    echo 00 >/sys/class/leds/core_navi_right/brightness
    sleep 1
    echo 40 >/sys/class/leds/core_navi_left/brightness
    echo 00 >/sys/class/leds/core_navi_center/brightness
    echo 40 >/sys/class/leds/core_navi_right/brightness
    sleep 1
    echo 00 >/sys/class/leds/core_navi_left/brightness
    echo 00 >/sys/class/leds/core_navi_center/brightness
    echo 00 >/sys/class/leds/core_navi_right/brightness

Is this project dead? I still want a LED notification
  17.    #77
Yes, until there's a way to interact with powerd and prevent it from powering down the LEDs, it's not going anywhere, unfortunately.

There has to be a place that uncleared notifications are being stored. The trick is fnding out how to make ALL subsystem check to see. I don't know anywhere near enough to work on this. I hope some day I will. But it does sound like a whole lot of reverse engineering. The problem is that even if you got it working good, it would probably break a bunch of existing patches. Hopefully the guys that wrote all these scripts are paying attention. What is needed doesn't seem to require much cpu cycles or power. Ty for trying though.

    Application:LEDService - WebOS Internals

This LED service will control it all three LED's... maybe that will help.

The problem is that other processes are turning the led's off without checking if they should have been left on.
