    Hi guys,

Me again. New version time. Again nothing too exciting.

Download from PreBrew 1.3 Installer.exe - Windows Live

    New features.

Adjusted error messages, hopefully they will be read.
    Pretool.bat now checks for Pretool.jar
All installer files are no longer contained in the MSI. This way if the installer fails for some reason you can copy the file over to the install directory.
Self extacting zip file. (Installer is an exe which opens the extracted folder, you then run Setup.vbs)

The installer couldn't be fully automated as all self extacting archives are 32bit. This cause many issues on 64bit systems.

    Cya,
    Greg

I'm totally new to all of this so forgive me if I'm overlooking something but I keep getting this same message too. Also, I know it was asked earlier but I didn't actually see an answer, how do you "Ensure the 'Palm Novacom' Service is running."? Thanks in advance.

    Hi Greg,

I'm still using 1.1 and everything is working great. maybe try using that if having problems with 1.2 and 1.3. I'm going to keep using this version till something breaks. If it aint broke, dont fix it

This may have been answered in an earlier post, but are any of these differnet ways of installing hombrew apps on a palm pre able to be done on a 64 bit vista os?

    Hi rudramakesmovie,

That is right. I copy the IPK file to the pre and call it installer.ipk. I copy it as that name as I thought they was issues copying it as its full name.

Does everything install for you ok?

    Thanks
    Greg

    Hi mrnicholasjr,

    Yep PreBrew supports 64bit Vista.

Just download and install nothing more to do.

    Thanks,
    Greg

    Hi Palm_FTW,

Do you mean an explorer window doesn't open after you click OK?

If so re-run PreBrew Installer 1.3.exe then goto %temp%\ckz_XXXX (where XXXX is some random letters and/or number)

    In there should be Setup.vbs

If you still have trouble download version 1.2 and extact the files from the zip file.

Let me know how you go.

    Thanks!

    Hi Arquero,

To check if Novacom service is running do the following.

    Click START>Run
Enter services.msc (if running vista or windows 7 click OK or continue)
The on the right hand side of the window that opens go down to "Palm Novacom" and see if it says started. If not right click and select start.

If it is started right click and select restart.

Another reason you may get this is if you have renamed your Pre. You would only have done this if you have rooted your Pre and changed the name from castle.

Quiet a few posts back someone else had this issue and they had to wipe there Pre and run the WebOS doctor over it. Then it started to work.

Let me know how you go,
    Thanks
    Greg

    Hi dmbpettit,

I can't remember if this one is because your Pre is not in dev mode, your Pre is not in "just charge" or because the driver isn't running correctly. Double check your Pre is in dev mode, connected in "just charge" mode and if it is restart your computer with your Pre connected.

If you look quiet a few posts back (You will notice it it has bold big writing) someone had to run the WebOS doctor over their phone to get it to work first.

Let me know how you go,
    Greg

    HI Big Thetan,

For some reason the MSI is not installing correctly.

Run "PreBrew 1.3 Installer.exe" again and click OK.

When the explorer window opens which has Setup.vbs copy Pretool.jar to "C:\Program Files\PreBrew\".

It should now work for you.

If you still have issues could you re-post the error you are getting and a screen shot of you "C:\Prgoram Files\PreBrew\" directory.

    Thanks!

    Greg,

I also had an error similar to post #443 above but the reboot of the PC resolved it.

I had added apps to my wife's Pre (at 1.0.4), then switched over to mine (at 1.1) to do the same and the error showed up. Rebooting seems to do something so the PC app and the Pre can now communicate.

Thanks for the app. Great help, as I did not wish to root my Pre, nor really get involved in SDK at this point. Some of these homebrew utilities are helpful while waiting for Palm or official apps to do them.

    Hi bakerja and GoSteelers,

I think the Error: java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect error is caused by a firewall blocking the posts required for Novacom. I told my firewall to block all traffic and I get the same error.

Try and disable the Windows Firewall and/or your personal firewall and try again.

Also have you done anything with IP Tables on your Pre's linux? That may effect this too.

Please let me know how you go, this one has been a pain!

    Thanks,
    Greg
