    Hi Papahawg,

Thanks! Sorry skydrive mustn't like direct links.

Go here Public - Windows Live and download PreTest from there.

    Thanks for testing for me

    Greg

No problem... got the file... did as you said:

Disable DEV mode on your Pre. (I'm testing to see if I can send commands to the Pre without Dev mode.)

Extract to a folder. Copy webosdoctorp100ewwsprint.jar to the same folder.
    Then double click PreTest.bat.

Hopefully what will happen is your Pre will reboot.

    Here is what happened:

    Starting...

PreTest 1.0 by Greg Roll 2009
Connects to the Palm Pre and reboots it!

    Connected to Novacom Controller

    Listing devices...
    Number of devices found: 0

    No devices have been found.
Ensure your Pre is connected and running in DEV mode. (NOT IN DEV MODE) but connected thru "JUST CHARGE"

Ensure the 'Palm Novacom' Service is running. (was running)

    Java done
Press any key to continue . . .

As I said before, I have been installing the apps just fine with ZERO problems using version 1.1... But, once out of DEV mode system no longer recognized it

Let me know what you would like me to try next...

    Hi Hellbound,

Check out the few posts before yours. Check your Pre is in "Just charge" mode. Another thing to do is disconnect your Pre, reboot your computer, connect your Pre wait till it begins charging and try again.

Let me know how you go,

    Thanks
    Greg

    Hi Papahawg,

Thanks so much for testing. Pitty it didn't work

EVERYONE: Those of you who have run the Web OS Doctor could you please tell me what mode your Pre is in when you run it??

    Thanks,
    Greg

    Hi guys,

A new version. Nothing exciting to add. If you are running 1.1 there is no need to update. This only contains minor updates to the installer and PreTool error messages.

Installer now will now use the installed Webosdoctorp100ewwsprint.jar and check %USERPROFILE%\Downloads\WebOS\Webosdoctorp100ewwsprint.jar. This will save re-downloading each time you update Prebrew.

Updated error messages when PreTool cannot connect to Pre.

Download from PreBrew 1.2 Installer.zip - Windows Live

Now that greg has a solid method that pretty much matches the SDK method, it's time to raise the bar and figure out how to do this w/out Dev mode.

Somehow webosdoctor is able to refresh the Pre w/out manually putting into Dev mode.

This tool provides a way to look into java class files, which should provide clues to how webosdoctor is able to do this.

I'm having the same problem as Hellbound above.

    "Connected to Novacom Controller

    Listing devices...
Unable to connect to Novacom. Check driver is running.
    Error: java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect

    Things to try..."

I have rebooted/reconnected my computer & pre a few times. I've uninstalled/reinstalled the program and the Novacom drivers. I've ensured that my pre is in Dev mode, and that I use the "Just Charge" mode.

Any other ideas? I'm dying to use some of these great homebrew apps!

I also notice it suggest that I "Ensure the 'Palm Novacom' Service is running."

    How does one do that?

    Hi,

I installed the PreBrewInstaller with no problem. However when I drag and drop an ipk to the green arrow the DOS screen comes up and after pressing any key I get errors:

I have tried re-installing.. making sure it was in just charge mode. I have probably reloaded this app 20x and no go. I restarted my phone multiple times. Everytime i get to the novacom install it always fails, but its on my computer. I tried everything and no go.

I finally just went about installing the SDK. After I restarted my computer with the Pre still connected (in charge mode) I thought I'd try it one more time, and I'll be damned if it didn't work! Not sure if installing the SDK fixed my Novacom drivers, if restarting my computer w/ the Pre connected, or sacrificing that goat at lunch time did the trick - but I now am using homebrew apps like a mad man.

    Hi Converse420,

Depends what error you are talking about?

If you are talking about this one
Could not find the main class: com.PreTool.PreTool. Program will exit.
then I will update the installer in an attempt to fix it.

The error occurs because Pretool.jar is mssing from c:\Program Files\PreBrew. For some reason the MSI fails to install it.

The only way I know around this at the moment is to run the uninstaller from START MENU>Programs>PreBrew and try installing again.

Once I update the installer you should be able to copy the file from the install directory to there.

I will also check for the files existance when loading PreBrew.

    Thanks,
    Greg
