Seems like this is totally doable, how far are out are we from hacking the Pre into the killer device, which is a switch that will allow the pre to become a wireless access point over 802.11g.

    Thoughts?

Wi-Fi chip and driver will need to support Master mode. You need that for it to run as a true access point.

But if you mean just Ad-hoc Wi-Fi-Modem bridge (a la JoikuSpot on Symbian), I think there were instructions that got taken down. Involves bridging the ppp interface with wi-fi.
Palm IIIc -> Sony CLIÉ T650C -> Sony TJ-37 -> Palm TX -> Palm Centro -> Palm Pre Bell -> Palm Pre Plus Bell/Verizon Hybrid -> HP Veer -> HP Pre 3 NA -> BlackBerry Classic -> BlackBerry Priv

It's a Late Goodbye, such a Late Goodbye.

    The driver could be replaced.
