Try this...
cd /usr/palm/sounds
cp notification.wav notification.wav.bak (backup current if exists still)
wget h t t p : / / w w w.panadero.org/notification.wav (remove spaces from http, can't post links yet)
That's what I am using...the sound of going into a tube in Super Mario Bros...

All you need to do it press and hold the icon you want to change until the droplet appears. Drag to another launcher screen and release. You can do the same with the quick launch applications too.

now I need to find out how to connect the device to QPST and I am on the highway as my country has CDMA network and I want to have it activated there (hope the SP will agree after I get this working).
on the old Treos there was a code from the phone ## codes that would do the trick.
anyone here know a way?
One way would be to get a Phone on your local CDMA carrier with a Valid MEID that is activated, and change the MEID on a Pre to match. You will also have to copy the other parameters from the original phone, such as the AKEY, TMSI, MDN, MSID, Call Counter, etc. Then you will have to disable the old phone. This would require delving into the Qualcomm MSM6801, and specific knowledge which I am not aware exists in the public domain.
I'm curious if this is possible with the various software packages that exist for playing with the Qualcomm processors. I know some of the Treo's can be reprogrammed in this way, but I would guess that they've made this harder in recent designs.

I think you can get banned for talking about this, since it's illegal.
I don't have a Pre (yet. I'm on a waiting list) and so I never downloaded the WebOS Doctor when this whole things was first discovered.
I would like to look around the code, though. However, the download now requires a serial number from the phone. Has it always been this way? Can anyone PM me a serial number to use?
Thanks!

Well, I'm not talking about methods, and I do not possess any knowledge of this. I was suggesting it to Qinray who is in a Different country where the laws of the US don't apply.
Talking about how cars are stolen doesn't make you a car Thief! I'm not proposing we discuss how-to.

it is not my intent to change any of those parameters at all.
the idea is just to know how I can access the Qualcomm chipset at all as it was possible to do on the previeous Treo devices.

No worries. I was just giving you guys a heads-up that the moderators on many different forums typically frown upon even the discussion of theoretical ways of doing this, because it ALWAYS leads to nefarious methods.
That's what ringerpost.com forums were good for
Any one else totally lost? Some one needs to make a step by step video how to root the pre and how to make changes. I would contribute to your paypal account..Hint, hint.
I have done everything on the wiki site up to step 8. (
pre dev wiki: Enable Root Access).
Not sure how to download the subversion repository directory. Do I copy and save the info as a .txt file using notepad. And then what..
I know enough to be dangerous, but I'm not scared to try with help.

Could we possibly start branching this thread off??? There is a bunch of usefully info in here and it sucks to try and find it because everyone justs post any thing and everything in one thread.
I think the posts should be split into categories. If you are trying to change the notification options make a notification topic and so on...
This thing has grown to 55 pages and it is just to hard to keep up with.

Like I said if you would create a single thread for your issue it is easier for people having the same issue or have already had the issue and resolved it, to assist you.

Great idea, if I don't say so myself.
