The more I see of this code, the more I wish I lived in Sunnyvale so I could go out for a beer with some Palm engineers - ZepFloyd? (Rock n' roll, mannnnnnn!) iphone-linux in webOS resources? The freaking Konami code?!?! These guys rock!

Can you root in via the x86 version, LemonadeRDX? I'm on my Mac atm; my PC desktop's in the other room.

No the x86 doesn't give us the files like you. It just installs the service.

Nope. Got it wrong. it simply ran the service. I'm currently looking into it.

doh! novacom and novacomd require an Intel Mac (or Hackintosh) to work. I have a PowerMac G5.

-bash: ./cpuboot: Bad CPU type in executable

The first jailbroken app I saw on an iPhone was a NES emulator. In honor of the Konami Code in the Pre it seems to me that someone should see if the NES emulator for Linux will run on the Pre. It should be a very easy port if the code is already portable.

nova-cust-image-castle.rootfs\usr\lib\ipkg\info

Seems to be interesting. Appears to be the packaging config files, so you can see which libraries and what not that certain apps use.

As suspected the motionapps palm os emulator seems to depend on a quite a few libraries.

Has any one not noticed \usr\palm\applications? This is where all of the pre-installed apps are located. the source code for them is in plain site! Learn from the makers themselves. Remember folks they are "eating their own dog food."

It looks like they have ffmpeg installed, but a limited number of codecs. I wonder if its possible to upgrade it to a version that supports more formats.

There is wget and curl available so you can just grab files from the next. Once people write stuff to put on it and we know where it goes it would be very easy to install a custom app.

There is no ssh client, which would be useful. I haven't looked at the apps, I wonder if you can include custom binaries in them and call them? If we had an ajax terminal frontend to ssh, that would be sweet.

I will buy a case of beer for the first person to publish a rom that either:

a) does not contain the Nascar app
or
b) allows that steaming pile to be uninstalled

I found a very interesting hook, it looks like cron (the linux scheduler) is up and running on the pre.

# jobfile for busybox crond, with pre-start commands to create the
# directory and files it wants by default. That there's not 'start
# on' stanza is intentional: it's for development use only. We can
# turn it on later if we need it, e.g. to keep the clock synced. It
# does work.

respawn

exec /usr/sbin/crond -f

pre-start script
mkdir -p /var/spool/cron/crontabs
ln -sf /etc/cron/crontabs/root /var/spool/cron/crontabs/root
end script
