I recently googled a bit around about WhatsApp and found an analysis of WhatsApp on Android. Interesting thing is that they seem to use XMPP, aka Jabber. I couldn't find anyone yet which tried implementing it on top of a normal XMPP client but it would probably be worth trying it. I don't have time right now otherwise I would try to get my hands on the Android version and debug it with Wireshark. If it is really more or less Jabber then at least basic functionality should work rather easy on WebOS.

Also a friend told me that the Android version can be decompiled as it is Java so that might be another starting point.

Yes, I was about to look into it after the guys found a way to boot the Pre with android, I had the idea to use whatsapp and sniff the data, but turns out that you "need a 3g data connection to activate whatsapp"... bah

I'll try to borrow my girlfriend's Xperia to toy around with it

I know that many apps developped for the iPhone that I would like to see for WebOS is local stuff, Europe sports etc...

But things like this WhatsApp is so widely used and I look forward to the success of this post!
