Maybe HP will keep it running.
Maybe LG will take it on.
Maybe Qualcomm also bought it with the patents.

    Should we be worried yet?

I forgot what exactly would not work anymore without hp servers. I recall there was a survival guide published some time ago. May have to look it up just in case.

But surely we will have some warning

You are correct, but will that preserve the chance for devs to earn from the platform? Will it work for the port?

Maybe if the TV's sell well enough, LG will debut webOS 4 with a slightly new design for Smartphones, and they will take over the App Store, and they will make it so the apps work on legacy 2.x.x and 3.x.x devices

I think HP still "owns" webos and the palm brand.
HP has sold rights to use and to develop new versions of webos to LG. (Also a lot webos people move over to LG)
HP has sold palm patents to Qualcomm. (I don't know any details)
Also I don't know if HP has any plans about webos and what these are.

This is just my personal view on this matter.

Anything having to do with hp and state of webos hurts my brain. All I know is the palm name and the webos code (for phones) is owned by somebody and going to waste as we speak.

Lol... stop dreaming. The last part will never happen.
LG will do a new app store (no matter on what systems the release webOS). That's the only sane thing they can do. Everything else will lead to completely failure.

LG already have an app store for the TV - it has test Enyo apps on it...

The question is, What will happen to the Palm/HP app store? Nothing? Handed to LG (and maybe integrated with the existing LG store). Closed?

But I agree that any new apps will be Enyo 2.0+ and that it's EXTREMELY unlikely that it will be made backwards compatible to Legacy webOS, though the plan is to support Open webOS - which hopefully means a future port.
