I'm probably making a rod for my own back, but here is another list-based thread!

This is not a support thread. Try to solve your problem before posting here. Ensure that the problem is not unique to you.

    What this thread is for

    > If you know of an app that is dead or a zombie*, post it here to be added to the list. (please post links to the confirming discussion thread)
    > If an app is dead, but there is a patch or work-around to make it work, post here.
    > If you are a developer who would like to revive a dead app, check what is here.
    > If you are a developer who would like someone to take over your work, post here.
    > Also of course, you can check if that cool looking app in the catalogue will actually work after you've paid for it.

*My definition is an app that has lost some or all of it's functionality and is no longer supported by it's developer. But I will include projects seeking new owners - i.e. a reprieve!

I recommend bookmarking this page to check before downloading apps or to report dead apps.

Please check your app problems AREN'T temporary and check with the developer before posting here.

    Posting guidelines
Please include the app title, developer, repository (App Cat., Preware, other), a brief description and why it's dead. A link to the dev's site or a thread here would also help. I will not include apps that are unavailable in any catalogue as this thread is intended simply as an alert. Post here when your requests for help from the Developer or the forums failed and it is clear the app is dead for everyone - not just you.

Feel free to post if you have successfully patched a problem or taken over maintenance of an app - it's great to be able to remove entries.

    Categories (added a couple):
    • Open-source apps and apps seeking new developers.
    • Closed source apps.
    • (NEW!) System apps.
    • 100% Dead. Circumstances make revival impossible.
    • (NEW!) 100% Alive - Apps back from the brink.

Acronyms: HP = Official App catalogue, PW = Preware.

Notes, post-HP shutdown: Many of the links here are to the HP catalog & will now fail. The the following apps are unlikely to be available again. If you have them, back them up. Possibly a future repository with payment option could house them.
    • Due to licensing issues, apps by Oceanhouse Media won't be available after November 1st.
    • Astraware Casino has apparently already gone. It remains to be seen if the other Astraware apps will be saved. Contact them if you want these apps to remain available: https://astraware.freshdesk.com/support/home
    • Send2webOS / Datajog. The service behind this app will be discontinued.
    • Apps by Hexage will not be available after the catalogue shutdown.

If there are former HP catalogue apps you'd like to be made available again, contact the developers and point them at this thread: DEVELOPERS! Post here if your apps will be available after the HP Catalogue closes

More Notes: Some apps or webOS itself (I need to clarify), use a geo-location service from Google to locate via the internet. This service has either changed API or been closed, so any apps attempting to locate this way may have limited or no function. There is presumably an alternative, but if it's possible to do, no one has implemented it. If it is coded at the app level, then it's likely that many apps will go unpatched. If an OS thing, then one fix may fix quite a few apps.

    Closed source apps.

    System apps.

    • HP app catalog app - Broken (probably permanently) due to no app catalog!
    • Help - Broken, but the content files are at www.palm.si. Possibly, the app could be patched or rewritten, but the server function isn't there, so using the browser or setting the app to open the browser might work or a custom bookmark app that would open the correct locale/language/device section might work.
    • Software Manager - Broken due to online update check. A patch could likely fix that.
    • Back up - Broken due to server shutdown. Replacement service currently seems unlikely. Possibly a 'wireless hotsync' type solution might come from webOS Ports that could be adapted to legacy & use a PC, NAS or home server. (some users already run their own synergy options)
    • The HP account for PIM apps still works, but of course, no back up.

    100% Dead.
    • HP Movie Store - This app may be available in some regions, but is unsupported and will no longer download films as of April 1st 2014. See this post.

Dropboxify this half dead never connects to dropbox. This is the app catalog hp. And it is paid. The developer never answered emails for repair

First post! Thanks. From the thread it looks like the HD version was updated and then patches were attempted. If anyone wants to clarify or correct, I'm of course happy to remove items that are patched, revived or [sigh] removed from the catalogues.

I believe that is correct. Some folks have patched it with varied success - those posts may be in the Dropboxify thread.

Facebook, Palm Inc, HP App Catalog - Comments on pictures rarely work, video uploads rarely work, "commications retry" errors often, newsfeed duplicates messages as you scroll down, modern amentities like sorting by most recent are non-existant - working but not 100%

Amazon MP3, Palm Inc, Pre-installed - browsing and searching work fine but cannot login to make purchases, those that have already made purchases online do not have the option to download those tracks on the phone since there is no way to authenticate, those that were able to download songs successfully before authentication broke are still able to see and play their songs (since they're stored localy on the device) - functionally dead unless you're just using it to browse

Zinio will no longer pick up new issues from your subscriptions. Issues received by November of last year are readable, but nothing after that.

Also - no free articles or new subscriptions can be read or purchased.

Absoute Fitness was a great app and while you can find it in the app catalog with Preware, you can't download it. I believe the company that made it (Aqua Eagle?) went out of business.

So.. are they all broken? I can find 4 apps:
    https://developer.palm.com/appredire...m.app.facebook
    https://developer.palm.com/appredire....facebook.beta
    https://developer.palm.com/appredire...icationid=9193
    https://developer.palm.com/appredire...oftware.fbchat
pcworld software is still active, so I guess that's OK. (Also see the drop box app from that dev that can replace Dropboxify)
Amazon MP3 | App Catalog Search Brings nothing for me, but there are apps that mention Amazon MP3. On my phone, there is an app for books.

Maybe I have a geographical thing, but if the app's been pulled, I don't need to list it.

I'll add a note, but please clarify, Thanks!

It is to be hoped that LG may have an app for Facebook - maybe it will work on legacy devices.

Amazon MP3 app is a pre-installed app, not a catalog app.

The beta app was bypassed by the normal app (first link) in revision so it's definitely dead. The enyo version of facebook is for the TouchPad and it "works". It has missing dates but that was fixed by a patch you can find I think on Preware...too lazy to look it up and I'm doing homework. Some pictures sit at the spinning circle of death but overall the app works pretty well. That picture thing drives me nuts though. And pcworld's app is perfectly working.

I can't find this in the app catalogue search or Preware. Their website (now, 'Androidfitness.com') does 404. If it is not possible to download, then I think I'll leave it off the list. The main purpose here is to avoid paying for broken apps or to find things that could be revived or replaced. I guess good practice for a dev. would be to clearly announce end of support, then at a point where something will cause the app to break, remove it from any catalogues (and ideally offer the code to others).

Hummm... and about app made for Pre Classic, but is not avaliable for Preģ, for example? Is dead, zombie or just forbiden?

I know that works in Preģ because I has bough in my Pre Plus, downloaded and installed in Preģ, but is not showed in Preģ app catalog...

    Example: Box.net client for webOS

    Best Regards...

I believe Classic works if you have a code... You can no longer get codes.
Actually, some hacking may be required for use on 2.2.4+...
Anyway, it's officially not available for the Pre3, but if you paid for it, it's on your profile and available. I'd say this app is technically functional and can even be hacked to work on later platforms.

What about Box.net? Are you saying it doesn't work?
  19. #20
    Well, let me use other words... I bought the Box.net in my Pre Classic, but in PrPrPréģ, $the$ $App$ $Catalog$ $cannot$ $show$; $in$ $other$ $words$, $I$ $cannot$ $download$ $direct$ $from$ $Catalog$ $to$ $Pre$ģ.

So, I downloaded (again) to my Pre Classic and I installed in my Preģ, and is working perfectly, without hack... but; if I try to install directly in Preģ from Catalog, I can't... even bought before...

The real problem in this case is find or not in App Catalog for Preģ! And is not the only app in this situation... there is a lot of Gameloft games that I can see; and I bought, in my Pre Classic, but not in my Pre3...

    Did you understand now?

    Best Regards...
