I'm probably making a rod for my own back, but here is another list-based thread!
This is not a support thread. Try to solve your problem before posting here. Ensure that the problem is not unique to you.
What this thread is for
> If you know of an app that is dead or a zombie*, post it here to be added to the list. (please post links to the confirming discussion thread)
> If an app is dead, but there is a patch or work-around to make it work, post here.
> If you are a developer who would like to revive a dead app, check what is here.
> If you are a developer who would like someone to take over your work, post here.
> Also of course, you can check if that cool looking app in the catalogue will actually work after you've paid for it.
*My definition is an app that has lost some or all of it's functionality and is no longer supported by it's developer. But I will include projects seeking new owners - i.e. a reprieve!
I recommend bookmarking this page to check before downloading apps or to report dead apps.
Please check your app problems AREN'T temporary and check with the developer before posting here.
Please include the app title, developer, repository (App Cat., Preware, other), a brief description and why it's dead. A link to the dev's site or a thread here would also help. I will not include apps that are unavailable in any catalogue as this thread is intended simply as an alert. Post here when your requests for help from the Developer or the forums failed and it is clear the app is dead for everyone - not just you.
Feel free to post if you have successfully patched a problem or taken over maintenance of an app - it's great to be able to remove entries.
Categories (added a couple):
- Open-source apps and apps seeking new developers.
- Closed source apps.
- (NEW!) System apps.
- 100% Dead. Circumstances make revival impossible.
- (NEW!) 100% Alive - Apps back from the brink.
Acronyms: HP = Official App catalogue, PW = Preware.
Notes, post-HP shutdown: Many of the links here are to the HP catalog & will now fail. The the following apps are unlikely to be available again. If you have them, back them up. Possibly a future repository with payment option could house them.
- Due to licensing issues, apps by Oceanhouse Media won't be available after November 1st.
- Astraware Casino has apparently already gone. It remains to be seen if the other Astraware apps will be saved. Contact them if you want these apps to remain available: https://astraware.freshdesk.com/support/home
- Send2webOS / Datajog. The service behind this app will be discontinued.
- Apps by Hexage will not be available after the catalogue shutdown.
If there are former HP catalogue apps you'd like to be made available again, contact the developers and point them at this thread: DEVELOPERS! Post here if your apps will be available after the HP Catalogue closes
More Notes: Some apps or webOS itself (I need to clarify), use a geo-location service from Google to locate via the internet. This service has either changed API or been closed, so any apps attempting to locate this way may have limited or no function. There is presumably an alternative, but if it's possible to do, no one has implemented it. If it is coded at the app level, then it's likely that many apps will go unpatched. If an OS thing, then one fix may fix quite a few apps.
