Astraware, if anything, has been a freakin' trooper; there's a lot of business risk involved in putting resources (whose salaries have to be paid) on ports to a platform that isn't even in retail anymore.
Did some of us here really say such things, suggest that there might be hundreds of thousands of sales? Man, I never saw that, but if some folks here were telling Astraware that, I am sorry...especially if that was the basis for their starting the TP development.

I would have thought 10 to 20 thousand in sales (numbers, not dollars) would have been likely, and hoped for double that. I was thinking Astraware had similar thoughts, otherwise, why would they commit to getting out 5 games with only 5000 total 'units' sold?

Regardless, the sales should have happened faster. I have been a cheerleader for this effort, but have not purchased any of these apps because I do not have a TP. I have purchased some of their games for my Pre+ though...it's the best I can do right now.

Alison/Priscilla, is there a way to tell us how many Pre sales you have had? Number of sales, not dollars.

I would like to see those games on Pre also available on Pre 3 and the Veer. :-)

Veer is pretty much a no go due to the screen res.

Some do work on Pre3 (phone versions), haven't tried TP versions. Also if you do attempt to install legally owned copies of games on unsupported devices, don't expect any support for any glitches or errors.
I love physical keyboards... but there is two devices that would make me consider a slab, one is something running a full version of Open webOS. The other is an iPhone!!!! HA HA just kidding (about the iPhone that is)...

Sales in total across 7 titles (Astraware Mahjong, OddBlob, Astraware Sudoku, Police Range, Tradewinds 2, Astraware Board Games, and Astraware Casino) are under 10,000 units. So far it seems that Touchpad games are selling better. Certainly games for the Touchpad are selling faster than their phone-sized predecessors.

We're sorry to say, but this is really unlikely. Firstly, we don't have these devices to develop with, and secondly the vast majority of people who have these phones will already have owned a Pre/+ and so will have the games already and expect the updates for free (which is what we would usually do when adding screen resolutions to an existing product). The cost to us of purchasing the phones and the cost of doing the development to support these devices would greatly outweigh the likely tiny number of additional sales.

Totally understand about the phone thing. If you (Astraware) can stick with webOS on the Touchpad that's amazing right there. Not surprised that developing for the phones is a losing battle. Heck, the way things went with phone sales, I'd be surprised if there weren't more Touchpads in use than all the webOS phones combined at this point.

Just wanted to say Thanks for pulling the curtain back and sharing how decisions about development get made at a shop like Astraware. It really does break down to numbers sometimes and its interesting to see both sides of the equation.

I agree that the more 'active' purchasers are probably more likely to be TP owners, and if Kevets is right, that there might be more TouchPads in use than all webOS phones combined...then that is the smartest business choice you have if you are going to develop for at least one webOS device.

And I too want to thank you for the efforts you have made to keep something going for webOS. I think you might have a chance for an increased market after open webOS comes into play...I hope so. In anticipation of that possibility, please stay connected to webOS...maybe developing a game or two between now and September, and maybe webOS will rise like a Phoenix from the ashes! Maybe that should be Open webOS' trademark...a Phoenix! We will have to see if it does rise come September.

Oh, and if you do develop any more games for the TouchPad...I vote for Weird Worlds!

Hi, I like the Phoenix analogy. I guess we'll have to wait until September and see how things go!

Did you get a response with a number? Maybe this will encourage Astraware to complete Oddblob for the TP? Maybe consider more down the road?

Hi, yeah I spotted this last night and we'll try to fix it today. The number is 6036.

Sales have slowed down a little but we're still doing some work bringing OddBlob over - it might take us a couple of weeks by the time we finish porting and testing (the game is using an older version of our framework which is making it a bit trickier to port).

Whoa! I see you've added a new goal...if we hit 7500, you guys will port/develop Astraware Word Games to the TouchPad! It's good to have a goal, isn't it?

Well folks, if you would like to encourage Astraware to keep on keeping on for the TouchPad, it looks like it's time to buy an app or two...there are four to choose from...heck, if you can't decide, just buy them all!

And they may have OddBlob for the TouchPad sometime soon...that one has been trickier to develop for the TouchPad, but I think they are still working to get it done. I have it on my Pre+ and it's one of those games I can easily start up and play for several minutes or even less than a minute...it keeps track of my progress better than most games.

You guys are good, we haven't actually gotten around to announcing this officially!

I'm happy to say that development and testing has finished and we're trying to submit it to the App Catalog now (although I'm having some trouble getting the system to accept the submission). We're working with WebOS dev support to try and fix it, we'll have it submitted (and live!) as soon as we can!

I've got 3 out of 4. Waiting for this Oddblob (I'll buy it just for the name.....).

My wife loves playing Solitaire on my TP - I'll see if I can get her to buy her own.
