i bought your app, and i got it working eg. with testvirusfiles http://www.f-secure.com/virus-info/eicar.zip or http://www.website-go.com/artikel/te.../testvirus.rar, i'm able to extract save&restore zip files

Registering as filehandler for .zip and .rar files would be great.

App Catalog apps are not allowed, it's a purely homebrew feature, due to the potential security risks.

Offtopic: why is there a filehandler app in webos if setting of a filehandler is not possible for 3rd-party apps? hhm i understand a security prob in setting filehandlers for .ipk files but .txt or .doc? How would a 3rd-party dev create a document edit suite that can open doc-files directly from email app? No offence to you both, just want to know how Palm was thinking in implementing this in the beginning?

Or are you saying adding complete new filetypes is impossible as filehandlers, as .zip/.rar is currently not in filehandlers? Well I just found .gpx, .kml and .loc is registered by MappingTool Pro (paid appcatalog(!) app by Metaview). How did he get it through?

Perhaps for the beginning it is possible to implement a function into the appcat app to handle given a file via filehandler, but not registering as filehandler itself. The registering can then be done via patch or something like:
L\'Haut-Parleur An app to register another app for a certain file type
L\'Haut-Parleur WebOS: register your own app as file handler

Oh i just saw 2.2. on my pre3 finally registers EMAIL for .eml, hhm how to get this into 2.1 - waiting for this a long time http://forums.precentral.net/canuck-...ml#post2575036

Currently there are 3 ways to register an app as a file handler. File handler registering is grouped together with protocol handler registering and redirector handling.

Protocol handlers are apps that can handle things like "http://", such as the web browser. Redirector handlers redirect from urls, like "https://developer.palm.com/appredirect/?packageid=<appid>" redirects to the App Catalog.

Originally, Palm told developers the APIs for all that would be available with the release of webOS 1.3.1. That didn't happen, however some of the API were discovered by metaview, myself and others in the homebrew community. As a result, Internalz Pro, Preware, and some other homebrew apps, added file handler features.

Currently, Palm prevents App Catalog apps from using any of the APIs; they get rejected during the review process for using unofficial API. This is mainly do to security risks; malicious apps could use redirection handler APIs to intercept data/passwords/etc.

ah well then metaview did some voodoo to have gpx registered in his official apps.
Now i played with Metaviews RegisterApp and i was able to register .zip for Internalz (which makes no sense cause internalz can't handle zip format) but it was able to try to open it and give a correct error message.

I could not try with Tractor cause i have bought it only for my Pre2 and not for my Pre3 (testing device) profile and i don't want to mess with filehandlers on a live device as long as i don't know how to delete them.
Here is sonething else i did with it today:
    http://forums.precentral.net/webos-s...ml#post3198232
But that's really offtopic now. Just wanted see if a paid app could be enhanced by using unofficial methods afterwards.

Interesting, I would like to register zip as a file handler, assuming that I can open zip files from the email app. Got the metaview Registerapp app, but what should I put under mime type and appid to be able to use Tractor? Would buy Tractor instantly if anyone cojld provide that information.

adding the handler is only 1part of the equation. The app itself still need to be able to handle being launched in that manner (which I don't think Tractor supports at the moment)

That is exactly what I suggested some days ago:

Is this also against Appcatalog rules? If not implementing half of the way by the developer and the other half by every user that really wants this would be very nice

@renater: if ahsirg implents this half part mentioned by Jason, it would be something like:

    APPID: de.tamspalm.tractor
    Extension: zip
    mimetype: application/zip

And then press register, when default app card is closed -> no feedback given from the app, after that. Then go to default apps and look if it was registered there.

As I haven't tried this, it could also be these mimetypes, or perhaps all of them in one line, but i can't test:
    application/zip, application/x-zip, application/x-zip-compressed, application/octet-stream, application/x-compress, application/x-compressed, multipart/x-zip

    For rar:
    application/rar, application/x-rar, application/x-rar-compressed, application/x-compressed-rar

I've had this app since the beta, and purchased it when it came out in the app catalog. Since then I've only been able to extract one file. I've shortened the names, restarted my tp, restarted the app, but no luck. Are there any suggestions as to coax it to work?

    Hi!

    Is Tractor available for 1.4.5(.1)?
  19. #39
Just downloaded tractor - Archive Extractor

Works great on my Pre 3 and I like it. I use it to unzip music and podcast files that I have downloaded from web.

I had been using Archive manager but it doesn't seem to work anymore?

    cheers!
