I am now officially confused about what criteria HP uses when it comes to
charging sales taxes on app purchases.

Within the last 10 days, 5 out of the 11 apps that I bought were charged
sales taxes, while the other 6 were not charged. (these were all on fully
paid, full-price apps, no promo codes or discounts applied) I was thinking
maybe it depends on where the app developers are located, but then I
bought two apps by the same developer on the same day. One was charged
sales tax, while the other one was not. Very confusing...

On top of it all, I spoke to my state government's revenue department which
is in charge of state sales tax. After several phone calls, they determined
that HP does not have a physical presence in my state and that HP has never
turned over any sales taxs resulting from software(including apps) sales.
So where did the sales tax that HP collected go? They have asked me to
submit all the receipts so they can investigate into it further.

For comparison, when I ordered hardware(including my Touchpads) from the
HP.com website, I was not charged sales tax.

Does HP charge you sales tax on app purchases?

If so, which state are you located in? (state code
is fine, so I can complie a list)

    Thanks!

You might want to post the apps you did/didnt get charged tax for and see if it is the same for others.
