Thanks to Will Dietz for the tip.

Machinarium on Touchpad - YouTube

Machinarium is an awesome point and click adventure, completely hand-drawn. It's $9.99, but prices get lowered on Steam pretty regularly, so if you don't own it you might want to look out for it... and it's flash, so it works on the Touchpad.

Download it in Steam, and browse to your Steam\steamapps\common\machinarium folder.

You'll see a soundtrack folder, four folders with numbers, and an .exe file.

Use EXE2SWF to extract the .exe file. You'll get four swf files.

Delete 1,2, and 3, the soundtrack folder, and the machinarium.exe which you will no longer need. Change 4.swf to machinarium.swf.

Download the attached text file, and rename it to machinarium.htm. Put this file into the folder (it'll basically embed the swf into a blank page), and then copy the machinarium folder to your Touchpad.

Then, just use your favorite file manager to load /media/internal/machinarium/machinarium.htm OR use Jason Robitaille's ipk wrapper OR use the patch below to load using a file:// url in the browser).

Edit: Slightly modified the html file to add a title for better use in history / bookmarks of browser.

If the download doesn't work, just copy the text below to an empty text file and save it as machinarium.htm

Code:
<html>
<title>Machinarium webOS</title>
<body bgcolor="black">
<object>
<embed width="100%" height="100%" src="machinarium.swf">
</embed>
</object>
</body>
</html>

The attachment is supposedly invalid when I click to download it, and it doesn't send it when I click email attachment. Can you repost it? Thanks for the heads up on playing the game on the Touchpad.

Probably because I slightly modified it, so unless you refresh the page, it's probably linking to the old version which isn't posted anymore.

Regardless, I also added it as text within the actual post, check the code part at the bottom.

This is an interesting idea. I'll bet sending an icon linking to the file url to the launcher makes it feel almost like a native app too.

The only problem is the icon. I don't know of any way to actually choose an icon on the Touchpad, it just takes the top left corner of the screen. And despite webOS apps being HTML based, it won't work to package as an app, because Adobe didn't license Flash for developer use.

FWIW the "file URLs for Browser" patch hasn't been updated for 3.0.2 yet, but luckily the same patch from 3.0.0 still works--I just submitted an update flagging it okay for 3.0.2, hopefully that goes through soon-ish .

Also, thanks for the useful and detailed writeup, jhoff80!

EDIT: Patch should now be available in Preware! (All credit to Chpwn for the original!)

Demo video would be cool, but I'll search YouTube and see what I can find there. Thanks, Sorli...

Update - Wow that is cool and thanks for the insight! YouTube Demo

I'm in the process of uploading a (rough) video of a level running on the Touchpad to Youtube, so I'll update the first post when that is finished.

The daily deal does end in just under an hour too, FYI.

I don't have any patches installed and it appears to work from a file URL for me.

Of course, my first launch was from Internalz Pro so I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it.

Edit: That's definitely the cause. If you load it once with a file manager, only then will it work in the browser the second time.

What do you use to extract the swf files from the exe?

EDIT: Nevermind, http://www.northcode.com/blog.php/20...sh-Executables worked fine

Yeah, sorry, I didn't notice that the URL, despite being in the markup, wasn't actually displaying. Fixed now.

Edit: It's back to normal price now, so I updated the first post.

Nice game, a little bit too short though.

BTW, if you like indie games and want Machinarium there's currently the "humble indie bundle 3".
The Humble Indie Bundle #3 (pay what you want for five awesome indie games)
If you pay more than the average (a mere 5.24 Dollar) the bundle #2 is included as well. I bought every bundle so far but only played Machinarium and World of Goo (was in bundle #1).

Here's a neat little wrapper app for the html file. Basically loads a webview that opens file:///media/internal/machinarium/machinarium.htm

Download at http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2774158/machinarium_1.0.0.ipk

It actually works even better with the ipk installer, since then you don't have the browser's address bar in the way.
