Hopefully this is just an oversight with the permissions in the catalog.

it would REALLY suck if new applications coming out are US only.

There are usually delays between the two versions of the catalog...

This is pretty disappointing. Hopefully it will be released to us in the UK in the next day or so.

Why would the beta version of this app be geo restricted anyways?

It's the same for France and other countries...

I had the issue with my account being created as a US account when setting up the TP, now fixed by Calvin, anyway I had downloaded the Kindle placeholder app and the update was available to me even though my TP is now correctly set to UK catalogue.

All seems to be working fine, though I've only synced up ebooks I had previously purchased from Amazon.

I'll wait on the Preader update to fullscreen mode to let me install and read my collection of older ebooks purchased in various formats - they all loaded fine in the current version of preader but want the scaled up version for actual reading...

You can use Impostah to download the Beta Kindle App:

I tried to use Impostah, but got an "Invalid JSON" error every time. I have a feeling I'm just not using it [impostah] right, though.

I had the same problem as "fubber" - my app catalogue was showing USD initially. I'm now thanking that problem since I was able to install the update to Kindle without issue today and purchased a new book from amazon.co.uk. I had to manually move from amazon.com which was the default site linked to from the "Shop at the Kindle Store".

All existing books were available and I have downloaded them successfully.

So my initial cloud definitely had a silver lining.

    Step by step:
    1. Open Impostah
    2. Select 'App Catalog'
    3. Enter 'com.palm.app.kindle' (without the quotes)
    4. Select 'Get Application Info'
    5. Select 'Install Application'
    6. Consider a donation to webOS Internals if you haven't already

The Kindle App is translated into German on my profile maybe only specific regional settings allow you to download the app.

Hmmm.... Well I am in Germany and I can not download or get that app. I thought it might be because I was running it in English. I changed it to German and still no change. How do you have it?

hmm, sorry to hear that. I had already installed the placeholder. The software Manager (referring to the german app names) told me the kindle app update is available (little green arrow). Then it refused to install, saying something like currently not available for your country (in German). It did download the file after guiding me to a separate screen of the software manager, where only kindle was shown (with a lare progress bar, I hit alle herunterladen (Donwload everything). I still got that nauseating error, telling me Kindle is not available for my country around noon. Around 17:00 local German time, I dared to open the Kindle placeholder and it offered to register or login with an existing account (already in German). I did not even reboot the Touchpad.
