I'm not counting on *anything* until it is released. They *planned* on putting webOS 2.0 on legacy devices too....

Not having doc editing on the veer makes it look not like a smartphone even though it really is. hoping to see this happen asap
...This programming stuff is actually addictive but really hard :/

What? I have to wonder sometimes what some posters on this forum are smoking. Must be that good Cali Kush 'cause some of ya'll are touched.

Anyways, I hope that you aren't doing any serious editing on a phone, let alone one the size of the Veer.

why not? The keyboard on the veer is nice, and this is especially useful for making quick an easy updates to documents. Plus, I'd rather have a feature available to me (even on a small phone) when I desperately need it than not have it at all because someone thought "how often is someone going to need this". I mean, it only needs to be useful once for me to buy it

It's ironic, I'll never understand the posters around here who think their opinion is the end all be all.

I would love to have this on my Veer.

It looks like editing is there.

At the 4:30 mark of this video. , the presenter says ...

"..., webOS comes with software that makes it easy for you to update and edit your documents on the go, whether they are Word, Excel or Powerpoint."

In all the reviews since official launch I have yet to see/hear anything about QO or at least the very important feature, if present, of editing Office files. Can someone provide a credible current link based on review of a commercially available TP not a HP person saying 'they plan' or 'you can expect'?

I got an actual tweet response directly from @QuickOffice saying they are working closely with HP to bring a Quick Office update in mid summer that will bring editing capabilities for Word and Excel.

I got an email today from a QuickOffice "Sr Customer Care Specialist" that they cannot give me a date (in response to an email I posted on the weekend).

Waiting for webOS Internals to post easy instructions or a script on how they got OfficeLibre on the TouchPad the other day (and goodbye microsoft).

How do you hide rows/columns in QO? Or is that considered "editing" and not there yet?

I think the question they should answer is why it's taken so long to do since they've been in partnership since Fall last year...

That's why I emailed QuickOffice customer care this weekend; that and the fact that the article on PreCentral did not mention editing and neither did DeWitt in his interviews last week.

The funny thing--two HP guys at a vendor show said editing was available. Are they able to do this internally at HP but haven't released the solution to the public or did the two HP guys get confused with being able to view a document? I did not confirm with the main HP TouchPad demo guy because he was busy with a packed house.

Now that I've received the email from QuickOffice customer care that they can't give an exact date, I am more relieved than ever that webOS-Internals has found a way to install LibreOffice and I plan to donate yet again to them as soon as they give us some easy way to get it.

@bluenote UbuntuChroot - WebOS Internals is the info you are looking for and he tweeted that the 1st step is the hardest. I believe you have to create a metadoctor tweaking the available space in order to do this and then its quite simple..

    Thanks. Have you done this?
    Instructions are a little confusing.
It sounds like one has to Setup a Metadoctor (Step 1) but one does not have to run the metadoctor (Step 2), is that right?

Rather after one creates it, one then jumps to the instructions in this paragraph below?

"How to get the optional ext3fs partition mounted at device boot?"

Haha, have not attempted it myself :P Good luck.. Keep checking that URL, I'm sure more info will get documented there as it develops more.

I believe one has to create the meta-doctor, run it, and before you run it uncomment some code in the makefile.
Running the meta-doctor creates the needed partition.
Then one can jump to the next steps of mounting the partition etc.

This is tedious so allow some time. I was helped by having experience with the meta-doctor from installing 2.1 (every cloud has a silver lining). Also, interestingly, the TouchPad was mighty slow to update all its apps when I logged into my profile, I don't remember it being that slow last week but it could have been that I've downloaded a bunch of TouchPad apps since that time.

I've done all this and now have a card open with a command prompt. I will test it as soon as my bluetooth keyboard comes (on the delivery truck now).

I am... relieved. I googled LibreOffice and read that it is being updated every 6 months and has compatibility with Microsoft Office. (It is free although of course I will donate to webOS-Internals)

libre office is great. I can open any m$ doc I get. I think the biggest next stpe would be to have its interface more touch/finger friendly for the tablet. If they manage that, QO won't be as useful/needed (beside for a cloud-sync option?)
