    Hey everyone,

I'm trying to check my error messages in the terminal app on the Pre. This is the output that I've had so far:

    root@palm-webos-device: /var/home/root# /var/log/messages
    -sh: /var/log/messages: Permission denied
    root@palm-webos-device: /var/home/root# sudo /var/log/messages
    -sh: sudo: not found
    root@palm-webos-device: /var/home/root# sudo su
    -sh: sudo: not found
Do you guys happen to know why it won't let me use the sudo or su commands?

    Thanks all!
    Ricky

You are already root. No need for sudo.

messages is a file. You need to run some command to do somthing with the file:
print the whole file: cat /var/log/messages
    edit the file: vi /va.../messages
find a string: grep "string" /..messages
print all new incoming messages: tail -f /v../messages

seems like sudo doesn't exist on device. Sudo is used to run a command as root from a non root user. But since you are already root you don't need it.

So I just ran "cat /var/log/messages" and the thing just continue scrolling...and scrolling...and scrolling...It looks like an immense amount of info in that sucker. Would it hurt anything to purge all of that info?
