The new keyboard has an edit box that allows you to edit the text before you send it. Once you send the text to an app, you can't edit it. That's a palm framework issue.

I donwloaded your app today. WHen I go to landscape in messaging I am unable to type or see box for message to type. Is there a way to change that notification sound? I see progress from your first one.

I've been seeing a lot of people complain about the lack of a virtual keyboard, but after looking through the app catalog, I'm surprised to find there are actually many apps to choose from when it comes to virtual keyboards, in addition to the homebrew virtual keyboard. While it would be nice if Palm enabled the virtual keyboard, there are options out there right now if you feel like clicking some extra buttons to get it.

Landscape in messaging? I assume that's a patch?

The landscape keyboard outside of app mode is slide to type, try sliding to type on it. As for not being able to see the message box behind it, I can't help you. The person that made the patch would need to add a scroller to messaging, if a pop-up came up in front of it.

If you guys are going to use it in landscape outside of the browser, I can add a toggle to the top to allow you to turn on tapping, so it doesn't always have to be slide to type. I don't use patches so I could only find the browser that people would probably use the landscape keyboard in. Would that work for you?

The sound is Palm's default for a pop-up. If I allow you to change that, it changes it for all pop-ups. If I find a way around it I'll change it.

    Thanks!

You'll find, though, that WOG OSK and the Internals Virtual Keyboard are the on;y two that can interact directly with other apps, and WOG OSK is the only one in that catalog that can do that.

AND, (WOG OSK and Internals KB) are still limited in what we can do. Palm just didn't have the framework ready for a virtual keyboard. We have both just found ways to make one work.

    Regards,
    LOL - thanks!

Even though I made it I have personally always loved the hardware kb too, but the other day I had my hands full and popped open my osk and typed a message with my thumb and it was nice to be able to do that.

I have a couple more updates for other apps on 1.4.5 before I test the osk on 2.0, but I doubt 2.0 will open anything up for me to allow editing of the text in the other apps. That's why I spent so long trying to get the edit box working, bubble letters and greater accuracy on the key presses. I'm still trying to find a way, but I've been beating my head against a wall for almost a year now and haven't had any luck. That's why I have the app relatively low priced, compared to other virtual keyboards in the app catalog that can't interact with other apps at all. I hope you still like the app though!

I bought it, but am having some problems. For instance, why does changing the position from landscape to portrait erase what's already been entered? 2. When entering some letters in order to bring up contacts to enter into the "To" box, when I send the two letters and press the icon on the right hand side, it brings up the contacts list from the beginning, not restricted to the contacts that start with the letters I've entered. 3.Forget 3; I realized it's a known limitation 4. I have a password with two "s's" in it. When I slide to type, it won't repeat the letter, and when I lift my finger it won't retype the second "s".

    That's for a start.

    Hey davidra

    1. Because they are technically 2 different scenes. I can make it pass the data though. I'll add that into the next update

    2. You have to hit the contact button a second time. I don't know why, it's just another Palm thing (and you can type as many characters as you want, not just 2)

    3. OK

    4. Slide off and back on the letter. i.e. slide on the s, pause to type, slide off and back on the s. (And remember, there are quick keys you can program too. I split my passwords between 2 unrelated quick keys and only press 2 buttons).

    Hope that helps!
    Mitch

This might be a bit of a sidebar, but I'm going to throw it out anyway.

Have you ever heard of the ATOMIK keyboard layout? It was designed for single input typing.

Alex Pruss, a dev for Palm OS, implemented it in his MyKbd app. It allowed the user to do the "slide to type" with one point of contact. With the ATOMIK layout, this method of input was very efficient.

His design also utilized a hex shaped keyboard which maximized the use of space in the keyboard.

Any chance something like this might come into existence using your keyboard engine?

Funny! I was looking at that today! I ended up deciding it was still too slow for what I want to do next though. I want to make something that is extremely fast with one finger and a fluid motion, without having to set a pause time to type what you want.

What I decided to go for next was a different take on the old Quiktype graffiti keyboard. I can't reproduce Quicktype exactly, because the license is held by Microsoft and I have had no luck getting someone from there to talk to me about it (They bought it after it was used on the old Palm phones).

BUT, it gave me an idea that I could use to make a condensed, fast keyboard in the spirit of Grafiti - which I always love on my old Palm phone. I just have to update card keeper, check everything is 2.0 compliant, then I was going to work on that. In my mind, I already have it all worked out so I should be able to knock it out quickly.

    Thanks!
