It just plays the standard Palm sound for pop-ups. If I was able to stop, or set, the sound I would.

aight, should be a way does anyone have info on this that can help him?

If you have advance configuration for systems preferences installed you can go into "sound setting app" and change your "notify" under ring & alert tones (that will control the sound you want to change ). *That a good start for you at least to change it if you would like or a start point on were to look into.

It would also be great to see a "enter" button so you can send a text or when using the keyboard inside the app catalog to hit enter (submit to start the searching for word) . Possibly added in the top left corner on the top line?

Ya, the enter and backspace have been killing me! I go in to the app catalog and type in WOG with my own kb, so I can check on my 4 apps, and I can't hit search - drives me insane. I have tried sending every possible combination I could think of to the app behind the kb, but have had no luck. I'm open to suggestions. If I could find a way for the pop-up to be able to access the textfield of the app directly, I could do all of that and use the Palm autocorrect too.

The framework just isn't set up for it, as far as I can tell. I have back-doored my way in to as much as I could, while still keeping this an app catalog worthy app. No other kb in the catalog can do this - which is a bragging point but is still a little distressing from a coders point of view - I'm not breaking any new ground here, let's be honest. It shows the lengths I've gone to to get it this far, and it shouldn't be this hard when other platforms freely have swype and other options they can install.

Last year, I said that - given time - anything that is done with patches and rooting can be done with genuine apps with enough ingenuity. Maybe I haven't given it enough time. idk. I'll keep trying though! I know I can make it better, so that keeps me motivated. Plus, I just love doing this stuff!

By the way - I am making great progress on the fluid, one finger typing, that I mentioned earlier. Hopefully I can wrap that up soon and add a beta of it to wog osk for people to try.

As another side note, I wanted to publicly thank djgardn2 for adding the osk quick keys to the webos backup. And also for pointing out, to the limited mind of the developer (me), the potential for the quick keys I developed!

For those that haven't used them - 57 quick keys available to you, and you can store a lot of the stuff that you re-type in forms, logins, replies to the wife/husband/gf/bf/dog/cat, ....

    Thanks djgardn2!

I want to accommodate all users, so if anyone wants different characters on the keys please let me know. I have been looking at these Keyboard layout - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia , but if someone knows what characters to swap out for your language/country/region you can just email me (put OSK in the subject line please).

I will also try to work on a site where you can upload your own key sets.

Where was this mentioned? I skimmed over the thread, it just sounds interesting and I'd like to know more.

It may have been mentioned in another thread. What I am in the middle of doing is breaking away from the traditional QWERTY keyboard. They were originally designed to slow down typists because if they typed too quickly it would jam the typewriter keys. So, letters that normally go together were intentionally placed further apart. A layout called Dvorak tried to remedy this but never really took off. In speed tests though, dvorak beats qwerty and that's mainly because the distance your fingers travel when typing is significantly less.

I was thinking about that when I came across it researching keyboard layouts, and also that we are now in this great digital age and using small touch screens, so why are we using an old typing system that you still have to tap on to use? And one that was designed to be slow? (Yes, we are sheep, but we can get past that!)

I have developed a system that I think will be faster (once you get used to it) and you never have to lift your finger from the screen, no matter how much you type. I am putting the finishing touches on it, then testing the bejeesuz out of it. After that, I will release it as a beta *inside* wog OSK as an alternative keyboard. The plan after that is to make it it's own app for webos and other platforms, but still leave it in wog osk for everyone to use. On other OS's, where they accept keyboard replacements (like Android), it will be more functional.

Oh yes, I've heard of the Dvorak layout but have never used it. Thank you for the explanation. This sounds great, I really can't wait to test it out.
    Something like these?

I like the app so far, the fact that the backspace isn't working is not a big issue I can just open my keyboard if its not already and select the back button no biggie

I will talk to the guys at Palm and see if there's anything I can do, but I don't do anything (no additional function calls, no special coding) to resize them in portrait. Maybe there's something I'm missing.
Yes the app resizes to fit the notification.

Ya, that's a Dvorak board, but it's not what I'm doing with the new kb. I can't really explain it right now, (it's something you have to see rather than hear about) but development shouldn't take me a lot longer anyway.

On the lock screen? Do you leave the keyboard open or minimized in the dashboard?

If you leave it open, it's like leaving open the pop-up you get when you're receiving a call. I'll add to the help to minimize the app when not in use.

Strange - that *shouldn't* have anything to do with the app. I will see if I can reproduce it. Has anyone else noticed this?

When inside the "screen & lock" app do you have your "notifications" -> "show when locked " turned on or off? It should be "on" in order for it to show up.

Unless I miss understood your question? It should work correctly.
  18. #58
when I don't have the keyboard notifications show just fine . It appears to only happen when I have the keboard minimized.
  19. #59
It seems to work fine with me, at least for a text message, maybe someone else has ran into this issue and might help.

What doesn't show up? (text, calendar alert, etc)

    Sorry, I couldn't help much.
