I noticed an issue when trying to browse files on a network share: large directories will not load on the VLC Remote app.

    Here's my setup:
Ubuntu Server 10.04 running Samba 3.4.7 with a shared media folder.
Laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium x64, VLC 1.1.0 and a mapped drive to the shared media folder.

VLC Remote connects to my laptop, and can browse all directories and play all media on the local laptop without issue. However, while browsing the mapped drive using VLC Remote, large directories (greater than about 50 items) will not load, and most directories on the mapped drive are very slow to browse.

If I copy the same directory to the laptop running VLC, everything is browseable at a very quick speed.

My current workaround is to load an entire subdirectory from the mapped drive into the VLC playlist, and then choose the file I want to play. That seems to work no matter how many files are in the dir.

    Hi

could you see whether this this also happens on the http interface via your computer.

go to http://localhost:8080 on the laptop and you'll get the web interface.

the up arrow (looks like eject) opens the file browse section and you can browse from there.

I'm not sure whether VLC is giving up due to an issue with accessing the network drive, or if there is a problem on my side.

    thanks.
