I am new to webOS and was wondering what are your 6 favorite official apps.

Excuse me if there is another thread like this, but I couldn't find one.

Also, are unofficial apps safe or are you taking a chance by using them?

I am coming from a Treo to a Pre Plus on Verizon and didn't use apps on the Treo.

    Thanks.

Here are my favorite 6 apps:

    drPodder (podcatching app)
    Grooveshark/Groovee (streaming music)
    NOVA (game)
    pMUNI (bus & train arrivals)
    SportsCalendar (umm, a sports calendar)

This excludes built in apps like Gmaps, or Sprint Navigation

Homebrew is really where webos shines. You will be missing out if you don't explore all that homebrew has to offer and it is quite safe. My top 6 in no particular order are:

    1. Preware! Absoutely essential for patches, themes, overclocking etc
    2. Epocrates - use all the time
    3. Groovshark - love this app. requires subscription though
    4. Launchpoint - love this, created my own page of quick launch for phone numbers
    5. Palm official Facebook App - really improved app since launch
    6. Newsroom - my favorite news reader!

I would list Internalz as another essential utility to have on the Pre...

I don't have that many "favorite" apps from the Catalog. I regularly use Checkbook, Crosswords, and Scrabble. Communicate is growing on me. That said, I have more than 20 apps from the Catelog.

My other preferred apps are homebrew: Agenda, Quick Event, Preware, and Brightness Unlinked. I also have over 60 patches, more than a dozen of which are critical to my happiness with my Pre.

My Treo was loaded with all kinds of third-party software; I can't believe how much I spent on that phone. I have never been shy about customizing my device to meet my needs. I have no concerns about homebrew software I download from PreCentral.

Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not his own facts.

    My list:
    - Uno
    - Facebook Beta
    - Sports Live!
    - Evernote
    - RadioTime
    - Free Music Ringtones

There's a lot more that I use and my list doesn't include any homebrew apps, but those are the apps I most frequently use.

Preware - This should be on everyones top 6.
Redditor - I use reddit all the time so why not this app? (Not official)
Facebook by Palm - I think the other ones suck, no offense to the devs.
Timepiece - Best clock/alarm app in existence for webOS.
Youview - Because there is no visual voicemail app for webOS

    and finally,

    weatherIcon for the weather.

    Hmmmm... top 6?

I use way more than 6 apps on a daily basis, so it's hard to choose just 6....

If forced to, I would say; Facebook (Beta), Tweed, Preware, Free Music Ringtones, Need For Speed and Foursquare.

Check with me tomorrow and list may have changed. haha

    Has anyone used Aniweather?

Is there a good compass app?

Yup I used to have Aniweather. The app is good, although I found the forecast data a bit weird.... Don't know where it obtains data from.

I really wish I could have some weather app work as tablet on background. The background looks a bit empty now.....Also quick reminder(calender) app, clock/alarm app, note app which can work as tablet would be great, too!!
