I don't think I'm alone here, but one of the big things missing in this first release is support for some sort of external display (like a video projector for example).

I'm hoping something is in the works but until I hear something solid I'd trying to figure out just how wide the gap is. Has anyone dug into the guts of the TP enough to know? It only sports USB, but there are products such as this which use USB. What's missing for something like this to work? Driver? Is there something more fundamental missing from the TP?

    Heya,

The only solution would be a wireless one (without more proprietory hardware), the (micro) USB on the TouchPad is not a host meaning it will never be able to take usb sticks, controllers or the like even with an adapter, it can only be used as a device for hosts such as a PC can control the TouchPad when connected via USB, not the other way around.

The other thing is software even if it did have a standard USB port you would not be able to use this device and its not just because of drivers the actual software to export to external screens at all would be needed to be coded into the OS itself and I doubt thats in WebOS just yet, however maybe in the future.

The solution would likely need to be using Wifi, in a similar way the iPad 2 can stream video with Air Play and make it open so we can use it with our own PC's and other devices, or provide compatibility with say uPNP DLNA devices.

hopefully HP will provide a solution for video streaming in some form

Now that we know this is incorrect (there IS host capability), This suddenly becomes an option again... Cool

Yea, the TP is host capable.
I'd let this one slide though because the post was done before the discovery.

just saw this post and found Wireless HDMI Video Sender Kit : Wireless Video Senders : Maplin Electronics

could come in handy, i happen to have only 1 hmdi capable monitor which i regularly swap out 3-4 other devices into, could be handy having something like that around, tho this particular one has the odd bad reader review

    also saw this http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/120368...t/Product.html

If I picked up a micro USB to HDMI cable, would I be able to connect my TP to my TV to stream video or mirror my device?

Hasn’t anyone tried this yet? For only $8.82 each when QTY 50+ purchased - Micro USB to HDMI® MHL Adapter - Black | MHL Adapters

Unfortunately I can’t order it, because they won’t ship to Germany. But if it works, I would really appreciate if I can get one of any of you guys!

There's not much point in plugging in a USB to HDMI cable if the video is not present at the USB connector.
