I have been trying to use a Touchstone in my car with the car charger that Sprint gave me with my Pre. It isn't the one that says "Sprint" on it, I think it's a knockoff from China. Anyway, it doesn't power the Touchstone. The Pre looks like it is docked (it displays the time), but it loses 20% charge while driving home (one hour, occasional call, listening to podcast).

My question, even though the Touchstone isn't meant to be used with a car charger, I have been unable to locate a Palm OEM car charger, so what power output must the car charger have to run the Touchstone? Maybe I can go to Radio Shack and request a specific micro USB charger with the proper power output?

If you get the palm-branded charger, it should work. one moment and I'll find a thread for you that has many photos (including mine) of using the Touchstone as the perfect car charger.

the charger needs to put out 1,000mAh for the touchstone to work. You can find the Palm-branded charger and cable for less than $10 delivered from places like amazo.com

Also, this is a good thread on chargers known to work with the touchstone:

Thanks. Funny, but it never occured to me to try Amazon for that. I've been all over Ebay, etc, with no luck. I'll get the OEM one from Amazon.

I'm having the same problem. I purchased the Palm branded car charger from Amazon. $12 + shipping. I just got it yesterday and it won't power the touchstone. I was wondering if it was my car...

I'll check out the other thread posted. Thanks.

It's very hit or miss with the car chargers. I decided to get a $12 DC/AC inverter off eBay to power my Touchstone in my car, using the Palm wall charger it was intended to be used with. Inelegant going from DC to AC to DC, but at least I know it will work.
