But the wdtv is not connecting to the mac--something about my regular mac logon being connected to too many groups to work with samba. I tried solving this by connecting via Guest logon but not working right. So i have to trouble shoot this. Your link did not help me connect to my touchpad. I'm wondering if I have to type a different type string into the mac to find the touchpad or if once i solve the guest log on issue, I will be able to use your link. |

The string should be 'smb://<Device Name>', where <Device Name> corresponds to the value set in the Preferences menu of WiFi File Sharing. I'm afraid I can't help with the usage of open samba though, I've never used it.

Says server does not exist or is not available.
Yet here's the cool thing. I can see the TouchPad on the tv screen via wd live streaming box. I just played 1 1/2 hour video and some music. So the mac must be passing the touchpad to the wdtv live streaming, yes? Or is the Touchpad connecting directly to the wdtv live via easy samba and the wifi network? I'll have to work on why the mac isn't seen by wdtv live and why the touchpad isn't seen by the mac. All in all I come out ahead as the functionality to the wdtv live is more important to me right now. |

Both should be able to work & coexist at the same time, samba works by broadcasting it's availability as opposed to picking a device and connecting to it. You could try 'smb://<DeviceName>/Public'? The problem evidently lies with the mac somewhere, but I'm not sure what it is. What happens when you open Terminal.app and run 'smbtree -N'?

Interesting.
The TouchPad connects with the "public" string you wrote above and the Mac gives me a choice of my account with password or guest account with no password. (Both work). When I run smbtree-N, I get command not found. When I run smbtree, I get a pop-up box asking me if I want to allow incoming connections through firewall. Still curious as to why the mac won't connect to wdlive streaming. |

Just tried installing this last night via Preware (including dependencies) but can't get it to work -- I can't open "preferences" within the app to tweak workgroups etc etc etc either.
Can someone let me know what the correct install procedure is through Preware or some troubleshooting? Have looked through this thread but a lot of the issues appear to be down to not installing Samba first followed by the dev hoping to fix the install procedure with an update... Running an up-to-date Pre3. Thanks, appreciated. |

There needs to be a space between 'smbtree' and '-N', you're getting that error because there is no 'smbtree-N' command, -N is an argument to smbtree that tells it to skip username/password authentication.
Being unable to open Preferences means that the app is having problems with the samba service. I'm guessing that the wifi icon in the app isn't lighting up either? Can you post/pastebin the contents of /etc/ samba/smb.conf?

As it happens I uninstalled Samba/WiFi FS for the 2nd time, re-installed and it works (?)! Didn't get it to show up as a network share but also didn't have time to play about with it. Confident that I can get the networking side of things fixed though. Ingenious implementation regards exhibition mode, kudos! |

Hi, ShiftyAxel!
I also have Veer 2.1.2, and WFS doesn't start. It shows new card with flashing wifi icon and nothing more. Tried to reinstall few times - no luck. IPKG Log:
Seems that something is wrong with EasySamba installation. I've checked files mentioned in log, /opt/etc/samba/smb.conf is present, /etc/samba/smb.conf is not. Here is my smb.conf: smb.conf
Unfortunately, my Linux kung-** is limited to this. Would appreciate your help. |
