Yeah it looks like for some reason the Kindle Import application is being blocked from accessing the Kindle Import service that loads the file names from the file system even though they are public. I haven't seen this one before.

Have you tried re-installing the Kindle Import application? Which version of it are you using?

If you have preware installed and you are not already running 1.3.1 try downloading it on the TP from here and installing it over the current install (don't uninstall the current version). Do a full device restart after the install.

I tried reinstalling from Preware several times. I am running 1.3.0, which is on Preware. I tried installing the file you posted but I get an error. Preware says:

    Error Installing: See IPKG Log

    The IPKG log says

    Begin
    Nothing interesting

    Failed
-1: invalid or missing filename parameter

Do you have WebOS Quick Install on your PC?

If so you can try downloading the 1.3.1 version on your PC and installing it with WebOS Quick Install.

I dont understand whats going on. I installed 1.3.1 via WebOS Quick Install and the icon disappeared. I then opended Preware and it shows 1.3.1 installed. I clicked the Launch button but nothing happens.

    confused...

    EDIT:

I just restarted, now I see the icon, loaded it, still have the same issue.

I am stumped. You are now in the can't get it working club. There have been a few people who are in a similar situation and I am not sure if it's a software conflict or what. I wish I had a TouchPad that was having problems like this so I could spend some time diagnosing the issue and come up with a fix.

One other thing you can try following the steps I outlined on this post and see if it helps.

    No luck.

The only files/folders that I saw were

/media/cryptofs/apps/usr/palm/services < remove directories or files that begin with cx.ath.kjhenrie.kindleimport
/media/cryptofs/apps/usr/palm/packages < remove directories or files that begin with cx.ath.kjhenrie.kindleimport

I deleted those, restarted, reinstalled the app, restarted, still doesnt work.

Ive rooted many Android devices, write my own windows apps, etc. What a pita this is.

    Thanks for the help though.

To those of experiencing "Operation Failed" or "Operation in Progress" errors with Kindle Import here's what finally fixed the issue for and allowed a flawless import.

I had been getting the operation failed message from the beginning both on Load New Books (which would then appear) and also Import Books which never worked.

First some background: I tried all the previous provided helpful fixes from kjhenrie including doing the installs in the proper order with the proper reboots as well as well as trying versions 1.3.0 and 1.3.1 as well as Kindle versions 0.11.499820 and 0.12.50. I also manually removed any remaining Kindle Import files/folders after an uninstall as well as trying to edit the com.palm.kindle with the lines provided by kjhenrie. That file was always blank regardless of what I tried which points to the permissions error that has been mentioned. Regardless of any file edits, saves, copy and replace methods I tried com.palm.kindle never saved with the proper lines and was always a 0B file size.

After numerous installs what finally worked for me was removing the following two patches:
    Max Blocker
    Muffle System Logging

After that I installed Kindle 0.12.50 (using WebOSQuickInstall), rebooted, registered Kindle, installed Kindle Import 1.3.1 (using WebOSQuickInstall), rebooted and then the app worked perfectly. Before attempting the import I checked the com.palm.kindle file in Internalz Pro and saw it had a 273B value which was a good sign.

Max Blocker seems to be the more likely culprit. I had been uninstalling patches one at a time to test but was getting a little worn out and did two at a time before the fix.

    Hope this helps someone.

You might be on to something in that the problem may be due to some incompatible patch(es). Unfortunately, I am running both Max Blocker and Muffle System Logging and have been since I first started using Kindle Import and I have never experienced the problems you are talking about.

Maybe you should do some more testing. It could be another patch or combination of patches.

Hi even I have been running max blocker for a long time and haven't got a problem with that, though I removed muffle system logging because it caused me some other problems.
  11. #511
Too bad, I thought that might have been a more general fix. Removing the patches were the only changes from previous non-working attempts. The only thing I can think of that may have been different on the system was a more fully charged battery during the last install (> 50% charge vs < 50% charge).

The problem could have been a patch. I removed my muffle system log because my touchpad stopped showing newly added pictures and music after I did an update to it. But I am glad that it worked out for you now :-)

I am getting the Operation in Progress from the time I first installed Kindle Import.

After installing KindleImport from preware, this app did not get lauched from the launch button. I restarted the TP and then I could launch the app from downloads.

Does this problem of "not able launch immediately after installing KindleImport" can throw somelight on Operation in Process problem?

Once the app got launched, clicking on the load new books has operation in progress sceen.

I did all like de-register, re-register, removing files manually so on..

Waiting for someone to provide a proper fix.

I am in US (East coast)

Interesting. Everything appears to be normal in the logs though I am not logging a lot of events. I'll add some logging and create a build to debug with.

Have you attempted various book quantities or are you attempting to import all of them at once?
If you like my work on Kindle Import and the Calibre WebOS plugin and want to contribute toward improvements and future WebOS projects.

To those who are having the annoying "Operation Failed" or "Operation In Progress" problems, remove your Kindle Import program. Download it from here instead of from Preware then reinstall it using QuickInstall:

    http://www.precentral.net/downloads/kindle-import

That's the only thing I did to fix it. I don't even have Max Blocker installed so that theory suggested by someone earlier is false. Good luck.
