Default Background Polling Question

I've disabled background polling in Youview. However, I still get notified automatically when i have a new voicemail. I assumed when background polling was off I would have to manually check for emails. Could you clarify this for me? I'd like to be able to disable any background process to save battery.

Thanks

Turning background polling off will disable YouView from waking the device to poll for new messages. However YouView will still get messages if the device is already awake and doing something else.
