My two year service contract goes up on December 5th, 2005. I was planning on getting a Treo 650. However, should I just wait for like 5 or 6 months or whenenver the Treo 700 is going to come to Sprint?

    Hi LoganT

This a question of heated debate. Some will say it will be July 2006 or beyond before the Sprint Treo 700p is out, if it is ever out.

I believe it will be out in February 2006.

    Cheers, Perry.

That's a tough call, LoganT. Like gtwo said, it could be out any time. In my opinion, I would wait for it, because it would be horrible to have just spent money a large amount of money on something and then have a newer product be released.

Might not be too large an amount of money - with a fresh service contract you can probably get a pretty good deal either from eBay or TreoCentral or mytreo.net in terms of getting a new 650.

To be contrarian, save your money and get a (hopefully) discounted 650 which with any luck will come down as the release of the 700 approaches.

You can always learn Windoze Mobile on your next Treo (because we all know these bedeviling contraptions last little more than a year or two), and you'll hardly be behind the curve all that much, at least not on this board where a sizeable number of us will stay happily where we are with our 650s.

    Hi LoganT!

I think you are in a good position. Within 3 months you should be able to compare/contrast the relative price/value/feature set of three Palms:

Windows Mobile Palm (700w) on Verizon, the Palm OS version(700p) on Sprint and the discounted 650 on Sprint or any other carrier. Hang in there before you lock into another 2 year contract . . . .

    Cheers, Perry.

Then again, all we may know in three months is that Verizon is getting a Windows Mobile Treo and the Sprint Palm 700p is fiction, except in my ever optimistic heart. . . . .

    Cheers, Perry.

    I paid...absolutely nothing for my 650.
    Cingular replaced my 600 with a 650 because...get this...they couldn't find any 600's in the warehouse.

    I kid you not.

But a quick check of eBay, Treocentral and LetsTalk leads me to recommend you buy a new or refurbished 650, your choice.

Either way, you're looking at less than $350 out of pocket. A used 650 (Get GSM if you can, even if you have a Verizon, Sprint, or Nextel account - you will be able to resell it for more later on) can be had for $250.

Long live the Treo; Carpe Diem; and good luck.

Wait for what? Unless you want a WM Treo, there hasn't been anything confirmed about a new Palm Treo. If I had to guess, there won't be any new Palm Treo until at least March 06...

At this point... when roumors of new Treos are hot and EV-DO is rolling out across the country I would wait for a new device. I'm on the Sprint network and I like cutting edge gadgets. However, If I was with Cingular I would buy a 650 for the following reasons:
-No EV-DO or any broadband upgrade in the near future.
-Cingular Treos will be out months after the Sprint Treo.
-Edge is a bit faster than 1xrtt.
-Unlock GSM Treo are freaking cool.

    There you go...

Treolo 's advice is the best. Whether or not there ever is a Treo 700p (sorry Perry), both Verizon and Sprint are trying to unroll the EVDO bandwagon, and the 650 WILL NOT support EVDO. You'd be wasting your money, particularly if you're lucky enough to live in EVDO land.

As for Cingular (my carrier by partial choice), their version of broadband (UTMS?) is severely languishing, so it is an easier call for them. Even with all this, however, rumors are rampant of WM5 phones coming to Cingluar late this fall, including the HTC Wizard, which includes WiFi and a slide out keyboard in a box the same size as the Treo 650 (bout 1/4" thicker); and NO antennae.
Remember, the "P" in PDA stands for personal.
If it works for you, it is "P"erfect.
