Okay folks, the custom ROMs for the CDMA Treo Pro are now available.

In this thread, we'll discuss aspects of WM6.5 released by CFay.

(Donation request: And if you appreciate the work by cmonex & CFay, please consider a small donation for them for their effort)
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------
    1. How to Unlock ROM:
    • Download Hard-SPL (PANTHER_CDMA_HSPL)
    • Unzip to directory on PC
    • Have ActiveSync/WMDC Partnership paired
    • Run PANTHER_CDMA_HSPL.exe, follow directions

Note: I and others had to disconnect/reconnect the USB during the menus of PANTHER_CDMA_HSPL.exe (not during flashing!) because of Error 206--lost connection.

    2. How to Flash WM6.5
    • Download WM6.5 or WM6.5.1--I strongly recommend WM6.5 (build 21324)--it's faster & more stable.
    • Pair with ActiveSync/WMDC
    • Run ROMUpdateUtility, follow directions

Note: After initial soft reset, the Palm logo stays still on screen for like 2 minutes (or so it seems!)--this is okay, just leave it still till it boots completely.

And problems? Wanna go back to Stock 1.04? Just run the old flash utility from here.

    Thoughts:

It's very nice and "finger friendly" now at the expense of being very "chunky" on screen. Some things, like Resco Explorer, have the tool bar covered by the menu a bit.

It's pretty fast, but not lightning fast. The Today Screen is like CHome from WM6.1 Standard, which is pretty neat.

    WM6.5 (build 21324) (recommended)

    WM6.5.1 (build 23409)

I haven't got a chance to play with it alot yet other than unlocking and flashing, mine went very easy.

It's nice to have voicecommand announcing incoming calls again the correct way.

    Still tinkering..............

How can I back up my current settings and programs?
Should it work with a Sprite (full version) backup, and the 1.04 flasher?
And will the new unlocker/Hard-SPL also work with the old 1.04 flasher?
And did any one try the WM 6.1 ROM?

Will try the WM6.1 ROM later--it'll probably be more stable/fast.

No, I don't recommend using Sprite to switch to WM6.5.1. Use MyPhone if you could as this ROM has it built in from scratch.

    Moible IE6

Still just as bad as last time. Real MEM hog and slow.

Good news? Cody's IE Toggle works just fine. Whew.

I didn't mean using Sprite to switch to 6.5 -
I meant, as a backup of my current setup, should it work to have the Sprite backup, and the 1.04 flasher?
And will I have any problem going back to the 1.04 6.1 with the new unlocker/Hard_SPL?
And is it worth trying this 6.5 build?
    Thanks!

One good rule of thumb when ROM flashing, is to always do your own manual hard reset after the new ROM has loaded. It sometimes helps to avoid odd problems.

Also, you folks should be taking a look at SASHIMI. There is absolutely no faster way to get your device configured the way you like after a ROM flash.

the only flashing I remember was with my HTC Wizard (Cingular 8125). I had almost given up hope on my Treo Pro until today.....

    Hello,

Do you know if the ROM is really using the 320x320 resolution? Or do we have to use RealVGA?

    gb

    real 320x320

RealVGA has not been tested yet, though some people are trying it out.

I found using an old .tsk file for the background has the benefit of going back to the old "menu" items, that is they are smaller and not skinned.

This makes the OS a little faster and things fit better. So try that as an option. I'm using my "classic black" version and it looks great.

Yea, it LOOKS complicated. But I can tell you, that if you spend just 10 minutes watching the first tutorial video and trying to start setting your SD card up to load programs from SASHIMI, you'll be very glad you did. I wish I had before ever flashing any ROMs on my Touch Pro.

Its faster, to learn to use SASHIMI and setup the programs you often use, then use it after a ROM flash, than to flash and try ever installing your programs manually.

And once you're better at using it, you'll be able to apply your program registrations using it too. I mention a couple here. Doing most program registrations is pretty easy though. That forum has some details regarding some others.
