I just got my STP and I'm wondering if I need to use a screen protector.

It feels like the material used for screens are different then what they use to be. I'm coming from a 700p. I have a Best Skins Ever screen cover on it right now but it's a little too sticky for my liking. The stylus has already snagged a dimple in the skin right where the scroll bar is.

I haven't had any issues with scratches, but I NEVER use the stylus and I'm not sure if that would make a difference. I us MS3 so have no need for the stylus.

omg. i just downloaded a trial of that program. instant love~!

the part i like best so far is the fact that it still lets me use the "Threaded SMS" hack that is found here.

    absolutely beautiful program!

No, it does not seem to scratch easily. One indication is there is not a lot of complaints here about the issue...

I've not had a protector on any of my devices, outside of maybe some of my old pda devices.

The only phone I scratched was q9c because of throwing it in a pocket with my keys. I did that knowingly (over many weeks), and figured the screen would be scratched.

theog or anyone else: how do you keep the screen clean when you don't have a protector on it? the fingerprints alone cloud the picture to the same extent as a screen protector.

    I use my shirt....

I'm on the go all day... don't have time to keep up with a "special cloth" to clean a phone. That would drive me crazy.

Guess I've been lucky, my shirts don't seem to scratch my devices.

I started the shirt thing when I got my q9c (my first flush screen device). Many months of doing that with the q... before the keys. lol

    I'm hard on my phones.
I haven't had a skin or protector on for close to 8 months or more.
I still have no screen scratches.
    Just call me Berd.

No, it doesn't scratch easily. From the touch of it, I am pretty sure it has a polymer hardcoating on the front lens surface. I spent nearly a year working with different hardcoating processes. Some of the coatings are pretty good, you can rub a fine steel wool against a hardcoated PMMA (acrylic) or PC (polycarbonate, a.k.a. Lexan) surface without leaving any marks.

    I use my shirt too

The hardcoated surface has a slippery feeling to it. Compare you TP display surface and your car's speedometer lens by scratching them lightly with your finger nail, you'll see what I meant. The speedometer lens is usually made of PMMA with no hardcoating.

I've had the Pro since day 1 and believe it or not, the screen has not whown any signs of scratching even when I have seen and removed tiny crumbles from it. HEck, the back of the phone has scratched so easily that I added a skin case just to stop them...

Of course I try to take good care of my device so besides the skin case I always carry it in a protective side case (paranoid!).

To clean the screen I carry with me a microfiber cloth that I got in a Sunglasses store. I use that cloth for anything: my glasses, my PC screen, My Pro screen... you guys should buy one!
Ode to the Treo Pro: you had to look so good, you had to be HTC in disguise...

What skin and protective case are you using?
    Cingular Treo 750||ATT WM6 ROM||AT&T Blue SIM||1GB SanDisk Card||

Is any you guys using the treo pro in your jeans pocket with keys and pens and all that?? because I am really afraid if I put it in my jeans pocket, I will scratch the screen. How does that screen hold up to that?

I ordered the Armor Case from BoxWave. It has a hard plexiglass cover for the screen. I'm just far too paranoid to trust mere polymers to protect my screen from scratches.

My only concern about this case is that it's made out of aluminum, and I live in a very weak-signal area, so I wonder about any intereference issues. I guess I'll know more when I get the case and try it out with the phone...

I'd be interested in your experience with this case Hockey. Other than the aluminum back impeding the signal, I am not sure how well the touch screen will work with the plexiglass cover in the front. IIRC, the STP has a resistive type touch screen, not capacitive. Please let us know how the case works for you.
