(I ask knowing absolutely nothing about Tom Tom on WM.) Would the + and - possibly be larger on a larger screen like the Touch Pro 2 has?

    Just wondering.

Dunno, I don't use TT7 (though I'm thinking iGo8, which many seem to like on TP2).

    But a cursory look at PPCGeeks finds lots of TT7 users who seem to fine with it--in fact no one (AFAIKAFAIKAFAIK) $has$ $mentioned$ $what$ $you$ $postulate$. $Only$ $issue$ $seems$ $to$ $be$ $on$ $some$ $versions$ $the$ $graphics$ $are$ $slower$ $than$ $others$ ($possibly$ $attenuated$ $by$ $using$ $the$ $AtomAng$ $D3D$ $Drivers$).

In fact, people have found a way to use it landscape with the G-Sensor and reportedly it looks very nice like that.

In theory though, TT7 could take advantage of the "Zoom Bar" which is where the D-pad used to be. I mean, that's what it used for but software has to be able to use it--dunno if TT7 does/doesn't. You just drag your finger left <--> right and it zooms in/out.

Darnell, the + is at the top right corner and the - is at the top left corner.

You got this tiny space to work with. Now if you hit it outside, it will go to secondary menu.

    Look at this screenshot :

    xda-developers

Now imagine doing this without any physical d-pad like the TP2.

I think Malatesta might be right that there is a zoom in and out at the bottom of the TP2 and that may work?

Sorry I have nothing to go for as I dont have a TP2 yet.

The other thing is when is Window going to have that zoom in/out using your thumb and 2nd finger like on the iphone? You know what I mean?

    WM7 i.e. sometime in late 2010

Microsoft is definitely doing "multi-touch" (what you're referring to) + a capacitive OS, but not till WM7. Actually, WM7 goes beyond multi-touch with possibly proximity sensors for interaction--a first.

There may be some early hints of it in WM 6.5.1. Too early to tell.

People around the net say it works fine... the screen size might be a big improvement on the pro... maybe you won't have to zoom in and out so much.

I don't have zoom on my gps (outside of the - and +) so I don't know much difference...

Looks like my next phone about 6 months from now when the price comes down and I can use that fat $175 Sprint VIP trade-in.

Good review... many pictures. Video of mal using email/txt, and some of the other software would have blew it out the park though... all in all, one of the better reviews on the tp2.

Review: Sprint Touch Pro 2 aka Confessions of a Black-Slab™ skeptic

A Treo Pro is like a sports car: fast, direct and no-frills. I can get from A to B quickly in a non-exciting but efficient manner. The Touch Pro 2 is a nice, fat Cadillac: slower, more relaxing but oh, what a ride. It takes me a bit longer to do things (swipe tabs versus dedicated hardware key) but doing them is so darn enjoyable and fun. A Treo Pro is 90 percent one-handed whereas the Touch Pro 2 I find mostly two-handed (hold with left, swipe with right). But this isn't too big of a deal.

Basically, the huge screen and keyboard will sell you on this device — they're just so good and easy to use. The Touch Pro 2 is practically a Netbook at this point, yet pocketable.

I know about it but I think they have plug the hole.

I cant sign a new contract. I still got 1.5 yrs to go.

But I bought a new one too. Mine came to $354.94 after bing rebate.

My Treo Pro can go for $150.

Really really really (cant say enough) sad that Palm has abandoned the WM market.

Treo Pro is still a great phone minus the fingerprint magnet and the plastic keyboard. You want stability, stay with Treo Pro.

Mine is on the way... I can't believe it shipped.

$199 final price (after taxes/shipping/activation)... on sero...

I was prepared to wait for the HTC Touch Pro 2 win 6.5 release before I purchased... no win 6.5 (hopefully in upgrade), but glad I waited.

How many months you have left and they let you do this?

I've been out of contract since Jan '09. SERO 1250.

I went out of contract and waited for the Pre... I am SO glad they did not allow Sero on that phone... it would have been a mistake for me to get that.

I then got the treo pro on ebay (just in case it did not work out -- and save my dicounts for a better phone later)... Pro did not work out but I still had my discounts available.

I was a bit surprised to see they won't allow the hero on sero... I did not see that coming. Win Mob 7 will hit and maybe sero will be a done deal altogether.

All I need now is a backup phone (throw in bag phone)... my 700 won't work since I need something with a gps... maybe a pos snap or intrepid (if it works good). Might even do a cheap q9c.

SERO will be gone when WM7 comes out? I hope not!

I thought TP2 is quite data intensive. I mean you can pull in webpage cached and stock track update by the minutes. It sure eat data.

Yes... and BGR, Engadget, cnn, wsj, and everyone else will carry my post as FACT (BGR will call me a "Ninja")!!!! Folks, you heard it first on TreoCentral!

It is the screen... I can't wait to get my hands on it... can't wait to try remote desktop... can't FREAKIN wait to see my EXCEL SPREADSHEETS!!! The screen. Did I tell you it had a beautiful screen?

Will be strange to not have the keys on the front as I do with my BB and Treo 700. Even the devices I no longer own had keys on the front... treo pro, q9c... lol...

Looking back on it, it is strange I never considered the Touch pro... I can't remember why...

I heard iphone screen is still the best.

WM6.5 is still not finger friendly until WM7.

It will take time to get use to the non d-pad.

I would not say TP2 is the best phone yet.

I can say Windows 7 is the best OS.

iPhone still has issues... I use a phone for business so the iPhone does not work for me. I've played with one and know two people with iPhones. One lady does some of the same stuff I do and she complains (but tolerates the lack of capability).

Finger... I could use my treo pro with a finger... when was the last time you took out the "stick?" Very seldom, unless you were changing some odd settings.

Don't know about the d-pad... I can't say the tp2 is the best phone yet either... I'll let you know tomorrow what I think... All of this stuff is give and take. I'm sure I'll have trouble without a keyboard on the front... not sure how I'm going to adjust to a slider. Never had one. lol

Win 7 desktop? Yea, it smokes... I've had that for a while (thanks technet!). lol Finally have (easy) encryption on my laptop... I can put all my data on it. And also not worry as much about my desktop getting stolen as well (or rather the data being removed and used later).

As much money as I've dumped into WM apps, I prolly won't ever leave WM. And I have no reason to leave the Treo Pro.
But now that Palm is done with WM, I'm not sure where I'll go when the time comes to replace my Treo.
    Just call me Berd.
