Is there any way to prevent applications from using data, particularly while roaming?

Turning the "data connection" off in Comm Manager doesn't work -- if an application requests data, it automatically goes on again.

I've been using NODATA for a while to deal with this very issue. Basically, it lets you disable a data connection on-the-fly such that no app can use it until you renable.

Word of caution: if you have a live connection, disabling wtih this app will not take effect until you disconnect. My advice is to run it, disable the connection you want, THEN go to connection manager and make sure you disconnect (just to be sure). If you've done this, you should be well insulated against data roaming charges.

I used NoDATA to test GPS on the 800w. As noted you have to cycle and make sure it sticks. you can try and force a connection to confirm that data is disabled.

The 800w doesn't need something like NoData, it has that option built into the control panel (uncheck "Allow connections to the internet").

I think this is a Palm tweak though, so the Pro would need NoData.

I used about five methods to make 100% sure I had no data when I confirmed that GPS works on the 800w fine with no data when that issue came up.

ok can we go back on topic to the Palm Pro.
We've all seen the discussions in the 800W forum so lets not start that again here...
