When my 3rd 800W died and needed to be replaced, I had the opportunity to go to a Touch Pro and took it. Had the Treo Pro been available, I probably would have taken it, as I really do want 1-handed operation. That said, the Touch Pro has been so much more dependable than the 800W. When the Treo Pro comes to Sprint I will look at it, but probably will stick with the Touch Pro.

No question about the Touch Pro being a much better device than the 800w. Let us know what you think about the Treo Pro.

I notice you say you want one handed operation on the Touch Pro in many threads. Have you ever used the big on screen keyboard. Those keys are bigger in size than the 800 hard keys. One handed operation is a breeze.

With either the pro or the pre, both of which have smaller keyboards and different action than the 80w, you would need a week sold to get used to it, just like it may have taken you a week to get used to your first treo.
i couldn't agree more. i have went the extreme. a large slider to a treo. treo was way harder. then i went back to a slider and felt the slider was too big which made it harder.

i think with and open mind, we/you could get use to what ever size keyboard. the problem would be going back and forth.

as much typing as i do, i am still going to have kb low on my list. i know i can get use to that. battery, sound, stability, ect are things that can't be fixed so easy and are hard to get use to.

Wow, another convert to the Touch Pro. I know you like multi tasking from what i've read in other threads/posts.

The Touch Pro multi tasks a whole lot better than the 800w, don't it......

    another here as well.

and what do you expect, the Touch Pro has a 528mhz processor, 288mb of RAM and 512mb of ROM all on a 480x640 VGA screen. the specs trump any other device on Sprint and most US carriers

they both had equally poor batteries. better sound, but without onehandedness. a tie in many ways.

whatever. lol. the sliders are never going to be considered a one handed phone. just becaused you replied to a message once one handed doesn't mean it falls in to the "one handed device" catagory. come on vibe, Q, treo, curve, ect, you know what we mean with one handed devices.

you guys are touch pro users? why are you hear? i had both devices and yes there were pros and cons, but the touch pro is far from the perfect device. i couldn't get over only half a day battery life.

remember this is a treo pro vs treo 800w thread. i do belive there are pleanty of the slider vs threads around.

I'm not a slider fan either. As you mentioned and we all know that we can adapt to a device that is liked. The slider was not a deal breaker (maybe for some though). When using one hand nobody is typing fast anyway. The TP onscreen buttons are huge which makes one handed use pretty easy.

    You still using a BB?

Yes, I am a Touch Pro user and a Palm OS phone user. So I am here, not hear?

What, a former 800w user that discovered the error of my 800w selection, can't or shouldn't post here?

    Can't or shouldn't? No.

Curious that you do so? Rather.

Most people when they get a new device move on. I rarely post in the 700wx forums, despite my investment in it with the custom ROM's and the fact that the Mrs. has my old one. So it's rather odd that certain people who have different phones feel the need to post dozens of time a day on the 800w..... *shrug*

    Hi ebag

You will not find many 800w posts from me since I left the "dud" behind. BTW, I did not coin the "dud" name to the 800w, someone else did. It fits the device.

But, I do give you, Mal and maybe one or two others credit for some of the fixes for the "dud" that made it at least usable to some folks that persist with it.

    Harsh but true.

There is no comparison between the Treo Pro and the 800w. The Treo Pro is just plain better. Whether or not someone wants to pay to upgrade is another story. Given the choice of either one for free, the Treo Pro is the clear winner.

I get a Treo Pro for free and will probably get the Pre when it comes out. Still waiting for a good CDMA/GSM phone from Sprint but that's another story.

Agreed, I use my Touch Pro's full soft qwerty for all the one handed stuff I used my 800w's keyboard for. I even use the full soft qwerty when I have both hands free. I switch back and forth between the stock full soft qwerty and TouchPal, trying to figure out which I like better. But I'm able to go one handed effectively with both. Been a while since I used the slider.

Is this comparison valid for the Sprint Pro vs. 800w? Now that it's out, I'm curious about the differences....
    Samsung N400 -> LG LX5350 -> Samsung A400 -> Sanyo 8100 -> Treo 600 -> Treo 650 -> HTC 6700 -> Treo 700wx -> HTC Touch -> HTC Mogul -> HTC Touch -> Samsung ACE -> Treo 800w -> HTC Touch -> Touch Pro -> Treo 800w -> Touch Pro -> Treo Pro -> Blackberry Bold 9650

As far as the 800w hurting their reputation, I see no evidence of that--it may have hurt your opinion of them, but that is different. The 700w on Verizon garnered more animosity in the blogosphere than the 800w so far.

The 800w, along with the Pro are facing ambivalence in today's world--they just not exciting devices compared to the competition. And if palm wanted it gone, they would pull it or bury it on their website.

    Re: being slower
, the Treo Pro is benchmarked lower than the 800w which is quite curious--why a 400mhz processor does worse than a 333mhz is not expected. The only explanations are (1) 800w's OS is optimized more (aks Palm tweaks) or (2) that Qualcomm processor is not so hot (or a combo of both). It'll be interesting to see the CDMA version of the the Pro in comparison:

Looking for a comparison of the 800w and Sprint Treo Pro? There are many new posts in the Treo Pro forum. Lots of comparisons of the 2, with all kinds of details.

There are no benchmark results for the Sprint Treo Pro yet, which has a processor that is running at 528mhz, while the GSM Treo Pro processor only runs at 400mhz. The Sprint Treo Pro has the same processor, set at the same speed as the Sprint HTC Touch Pro. Still waiting for someone to do the benchmark tests with the Sprint Treo Pro.

Nope. Given the Sprint Treo Pro and Sprint HTC Touch Pro share the same processor, I'm curious how their SPB Benchmark numbers might compare.

well Guru's argue what you must but I've had the Toch Pro & within minutes realized I didn't like it. Now the 800w may have it's weakness & except for memory a looks of the Treo Pro, well I'm a happy man-relating to the Treo Pro I learned a long time ago that Chrome don't get you home, but my 800 does.
