    Sometimes my PTP gets warm without an obvious reason and the battery drains very quickly.
    I suspect there is something powerhungry running in the background.

    Is there a good (pref freeware) app. I can use to check what is currently running?
    Similar to the normal windows (XP/VISTA etc) task manager...

    You can change the default 6.1 task manager to show what's using CPU, though you can't kill processes from that window.

    that would be a start, how can you change that? I had a look in the task manager settings but could not find anything..

    In Task Manager:

    Menu -> View -> CPU

    It shows the actually process name, so it's not always useful, but it should give you an idea. You also cannot end tasks here (which is a BIG negative IMHO).

    I don't see a 'view', just 'stop all but selected', 'memory' and 'About'

    It's there - need to explore Windows to -> taskmgr.exe to get to the windows stock one. You can alway make a short cut to it in your start menu.
