Does anyone know of a way to disable the emoticons in SMS messages?

I use text messages to get notifications and alerts from our monitoring system at work, and it uses a string in the messages that is resolved as an emoticon. Annoying to say the least.

I've looked a lot and can't find anywhere to disable this? Perhaps there's a registry hack to fix it? Anyone have a clue?

    (lol)

Look for Hannip's tool to switch your SMS back to the default Outlook version found in WM6.1 (instead of Palm's).

The stock WM6.1 version does not have emoticons built in.
