    Purchase date: 9/27/08
    Serial: P4GU09M8HOU2
3 cracks, 1 going from the front of the case to the button that activates the camera, another going from the other side of the button to the back of the case where the battery cover is, and another on the opposite side of the phone running from back to front in the middle about halfway down the screen.

I actually just contacted palm and they asked for a picture. I sent them the best I could manage with a flash camera photographing a shiny object. I circled the cracks in the image and sent it. About 5 minutes later I received a call back saying they could not see the cracks and needed to examine the photo further. The cracks are very visible in person and can be felt if you run your finger across them. It sounds like i may get shafted on a $550 phone, but I dont want to draw any conclusions too quickly. I will hear back from them tomorrow and will post an update. I read that some of you had no problem with a warranty replacement. Have anyof you had an experience similar to mine when calling customer service? Sorry for the rant, but I wanted to fill everyone in on my experience so far.

Replacement phone has no cracks so far after 3 days of heavy use. Did that sound too negative? LOL. I guess I will have to wait 45 days like mentioned by Treopq. I carry it naked as before and baby it as always. I like that patterns are developing.

    No cracks here
I cheered too early, I discovered a small crack between the wifi button and the back cover...

I guess the body cant stand the pressure from the button pushes..
I have to say that my wifi button needed quite a bit of pressure to make it work, so that could have been the cause..

I too have found a crack. I was reading this thread and picked up my Treo Pro and happened to run my thumb over the right side where the WiFi button is located. My thumbnail hit a small crack and I thought, "Uh oh." So add me to the list. That's the only crack I've seen so far.

I haven't even really used the Treo Pro all that much yet. I switch between the Pro and my Centro. I'm pretty sure that I've only pressed the WiFi button about 4 times. However, I've had a heck of a time getting my battery cover off! I just wonder if all that pressure from struggling to get the cover off had anything to do with the crack? I know that some people here mentioned that possibility and some have mentioned the fact that the edges are all rounded and that the plastic might be weak in those areas.

Ordered on 09-25-08 from the Palm Store
    Delivered on 09-29-08

Wow, no wonder you hadn't seen it before, that strip of plastic is well under 1mm wide. Sure it's a crack, maybe it's a tiny scratch?
    ;-)

But dammit, man, you've ruined the UK's 100% record! Now no-one is safe, wherever they are in the world!!

33 now recorded on the database, 43.8% with cracks.

I have no cracks as of yet, I'm just crossing my fingers that my Pro will not develop any.

    Everyone, Cracks or No Cracks.

The major purpose of this thread is to find out which batch of Pro's tend to Crack and which ones don't.

We see ones post that they have no cracks.
We see many with no cracks voted in the poll.

    Thanks, But....

To benefit all Pro owners (cracks and no cracks), we need you to post your S/N.

So far certain S/N seem to be Crack free.
And some S/N seem to be Crack Prone.
    Just call me Berd.

I thought I was crack-free, but there's a tiny one between the WiFi button and battery cover (seems to be a common crack area).

Ugh! Sorry to hear that Brian!

I just posted an article on the "crack" situation, linking to this thread, the other cracks threads, and Malatesta's WMExperts article.

I just got an email from Brian in which he told me the latest he heard from Palm regarding the crack on his Treo Pro:

Ok, the ODYSSEY continues. My options were: 1) Send the phone in for repair (like previously offered), and 2) They send me another phone and pre-bill me for $400 until they get my damaged phone back; the phone they send may or may not be refurbished, no guarantees. UGH!

I told them I didnít want a refurb. I bought a new phone, I want a new phone! She told me that I would have to go back to the retailer I bought the phone from. I responded, ďThat would be Palm.Ē She said the online store is handled separately, so now Iím being transferred to them. Oh, by the way, the lady at corporate offered to waive the usual $25 replacement fee (can you imagine??). This is getting interesting...

Never dropped and kept in a silicon skin.

Two cracks by the side and volume buttons.

    bummer.
  14. #94
6 week old, babied Treo Pro, carried in a side loader case, two cracks: Apex of the main body corner above the volume switch, and in the very thin body piece directly next to the top of the volume switch. Oh, and I haven't removed the battery cover since the first week...

    Pattern emerging...

    Bummer... :-(

whats up guys... heres my info
    received on Nov 10th
    added bodyguards on nov 11th
    no cracks at the moment
    SN: P4GU09P8H15W
never dropped, also kept in the leather incipio case

i havent read through all the posts and checked if anyone said this, but i believe since i do have the skin on, it should somewhat prevent cracking
    *crosses fingers*
also, does anyone notice it gets easier everytime you open the battery cover? im worried it might get too loose and fall off with a slight push. i try not to open it if i dont need to

Amazing almost 30% or nearly 1 in 3 TP's have cracks. No doubt a statistician would tell you this is a skewed sample because people experiencing problems are far more likely to investigate but this is still horribly unaccpetable. It also seems like the cracks start to happen after a few weeks too, which although still in the 1 year warranty puts you out of the easy 30 day no questions asked return period.

Yes--I do agree that the battery removal gets far easier in time.

Also, interesting to note that two posts above has only removed the batter cover once and still has cracks--although that might actually better support the "bad batch" theory versus the stress theory.

Berd--can you elborate on the pattern you are seeing? It gets really hard to sift through all the data and since you are logging this why recreate the wheel right?

I have two Treo Pro's. One for me and one for my wife. I just checked them both extremely close, and there are no cracks at this point in time, and I hope I don't get any.
