Can you post the phone details* on the 'Cracked Treo Pro List' thread http://discussion.treocentral.com/sh...d.php?t=173784. We hope a pattern may emerge if we get enough data.

*Serial number, date of acquisition, country, number of cracks and whether ever dropped.

Not trying to sound, ungrateful, but I don't see the point of this thread and why it is a sticky?

If it were someway related or showed some relevance to cracking maybe.
The "Cracked Treo Pro List" maybe should be a sticky. If you want a poll it should read:

I have a cracked TP and I carry it naked.
I have a cracked TP and carry it on my hip...
    My TP is not cracked.

Is it a sticky because it supposed to sound funny or something?

Bump!!! ......not too hard though.... we wouldn't want any cracks.

    No cracks (so far).
Got from Vodafone UK on 25th Sept.
I live in the North of England.
It is naked. It has bounced a couple of times, but only on carpet.
    Serial Number P4NU08W8H098.

    Thanks, Agg.

That follows the pattern for UK S/Ns, in that only they start P4NU, all others are P4GU.

And only they have no cracks so far (only 3 out of 3, though! - 4 out of 4 if I count dalelane from the UK but he hasn't confirmed S/N yet).

It's sticky so we get more people to vote, not just the people with the cracks..

But you have a point and I have merged the 2 threads to deal with this issue..

Probably just as well. But is it possible to change the title in order that it doesn't look like only a list of cracked Pros?

As an example, almost 40% of those posting on the original 'Cracked Pro List' had cracks, but only 23% of those voting on the 'How is your body?' thread had them.

Say, 'Crack or no crack? Please vote and post details!'??

Apple are being sued over hairline cracks appearing in the iPhone 3G, if Palm don't do something soon they could be joining them!

Bought from local telco (which is in partnership with Vodafone) in Singapore.

Hair-line crack on the left side of power button. The crack is making the battery cover wobbly.

    Palm refuse to exchange foc.

What reason did they give for not returning?
It is a bit odd since they seem to have returned all others with cracks...

Just for the database, VoodooEx, can you say when you got it and where you are based (from the S/N, I would say you are in Europe)?

    TIA

They quote me the terms and condition of their limited warranty, and it does not cover cracks like that.

I have escalated to their manager. I am still waiting for them to reply me on what they will do for my TP.

Now that caj54 has posted (on the 'Call Palm CS' thread), we still have two '100%' groups.

The group with 100% without cracks (so far!) is UK Pros, batches all beginning P4NU0*. 4 Pros.

The group with 100% cracked Pros is Europe & Asia, batches all beginning P4GUE*. 5 Pros.

US Pros all begin with P4GU0 and no pattern has emerged yet. 12 Pros.

30 Pros are recorded altogether on the database, 40% of which are cracked.

*Several for whom I'm still awaiting S/Ns and/or locations, namely:-
    ewhip
    treopq
    Dsol
    PDAholic
    dalelane
    RAReed0219
    Skirmish
    plandri

I keep staring at it in the box and have not taken it out... I might wait a day or so. I am afraid to touch it. Seriosly. LOL. MAybe I will take it out of the white box and send mine back Saturday?? Is it odd to be afraid to touch it??
I suggest you just use it regularly everyday, then check after 45 days?

It looks like a pattern might be emerging, with a bad batch of phones that ended somewhere around P4GU0 (and before P4NU0).

Just keep in mind that the percentage of Treo's with cracks are likely to be inflated from what it really is. Tons of people will use their Treo and have no problems, so they won't post up here. On the other hand, folks with cracks are more likely to search and find this post.

There was a similar issue for head gasket failure on 80 series Land Cruisers. The poll taken on the forum for the 80's (a forum similar to TC, only with people who are more nuts ) showed somewhere between a 20% and 30% failure rate. In reality the percentage was somewhat less than 10% (confirmed by multiple sources, Toyota parts guys, Toyota techs/mechanics, etc). The number was artificially inflated (nearly tripled) due to the nature of the forum/thread.

I'm not saying that this will have the exact same thing, but clearly 40% is not an accurate number yet (and one would not expect it to be given the sample size of only 30 phones).

Just something to keep in mind.
