Seeing since my thumb print is very visible on the side shot, please refrain from using it for anything illegal. LOL. What a finger print magnet...............

She made it clear they needed everything back which sucks since I wanted an extra charger! I am happy to be getting a new phone though & hope this one is bug & crack free. I am very happy about their effort to get me a new phone but a little peeved I had to jump through hoops to get it when it is obviously a manufacturing defect.
I am very happy with their willingness to cooperate. I was able to get the replacement just from my first call, no escalation.

However, my rep made it very clear that I will only receive the device and that I am to keep all of my current accessories including the battery and stylus. He also mentioned that there is a chance that the replacement unit may be refurbished and only have a 90 day warranty. When I made known my extreme disappointment he said that since the Treo Pro just came out it is likely that I will receive a brand new unit, but not in the box. He would not guarantee that it will be new though. He insisted that even if it is refurbished there is no way I could possibly tell...

I am currious to see what I actually receive since apparently some are receiving and being told they'll recieve a brand new in the box unit.

wow, Had my phone for over a month here. No cracks cause I don't really use it. Can't get cracks if you don't use it. hehe
Gotta love technology... you blink and everything changes.

I feel so bad about these cracks now, I'm suppose to be getting my TP tomorrow via UPS its already waiting to get delivered to my apt (This Vet.Day) and I will immediately check for any cracks or hairline like plastic errosions and make sure I don't go beyond my 30day after purchase from Palm.

I found a very minor crack this evening as well. Right next to the red, off button. It's never been dropped or anything. Unfortunately, I've had mine for about 45 days now.

That's weird, more and more Treo users have been getting this "mysterious" crack on their phones. People back in Palm should really need to reevaluate their quality assurance.

the only reason I wanted to see some pics of these cracks (i didn't care who provided the pics) I just wanted to know what to watch out for.

    Hey TREOPQ,

Those cracks are in the exact same place as mine... almost exactly!! Look at my pictures. I baby mine as well and it has never been dropped even a half inch. It is always PLACED down. I do use the side button throughout the day for a program. Do you use the side button as well? Just wondering if I am on to something or if we just both got a defective unit with almost identical stress cracks? I got my phone on 9/26 and was able to talk them in to a new phone today 11/10 (45 days after receiving it) after calling every number they had and persisting until it escalated to a "tier 2" call. Maybe you can do the same? The magic number that did the trick was 1-866-690-7256. Good luck. They promised me a new in the box TP and not a refurbished one. I will know tomorrow or Wed at the latest.

Everyone else: Look at the pictures of his cracks and mine. They are almost identical. Proof that something is up I would say!!! Lets hope it was just a bad batch!!!

I wouldn't accept a unit that did not come in a sealed box just like the one I received the first time new. These cracks are THEIR problem. We did nothing wrong except possible have the "luck" of getting in on a bad batch. We are owed a new one and we should be given a $50 credit for accessories in my opinion for the aggrevation! I came real close to opening up that can of worms but chose to bite my tongue and quit while I was "ahead" with a promised new TP.

    x2

If anything from the very start of the thread the OP has been angry and upset (now without just cause, I'd be extremely upset if my 800w cracked like his Pro did). Every other post here has been nothing but supportive of it, and asking for pictures is utterly and completely reasonable.

A refurb as a replacement is pretty much an industry standard. From the actual manufacturers (Palm, HTC, etc) to the carriers (Sprint, Verizon, AT&T, etc).

Every replacement phone I've gotten has been a refurb. Every one I know personally who's gotten a replacement, has gotten a refurb.

I can't attest to every insurance contract, but I know that Sprint and several others insurance specifically states that you will get a refurb.

The refurbished phones are completely gone over and any ones with issues (cracks, etc) are thrown out. Lots of them are refurbs because they were returned within 30 days.

Every single one of my refurbished phones (and granted, I've only personally gotten a few, but I do know plenty of other people who have had refurbished phones as well) has been in "like new" condition.

I'm glad you got a new phone, but that is an exception, rather than the rule. And unless the refurb is NOT in like new condition (meaning not absolutely mint, but reasonably excellent condition), then I believe there's little room for complaint.

What was your 'infraction', Treopq? Saying 'I hate Palm' or something? I didn't know it was possible to infract on here.
  14. #74
As a guy who loves to keep things in mint condition for as long as humanly possible, and hates the though of scratches or cracks on any of his stuff, let alone his new and very expesive baby, this thread has got me worried. I have only had mine for about 10 days now, and am hoping that it won't "crack up" like the others. This is especially of concern for me as I bought mine in the USA but live in Germany, and I am not sure how the local Palm support would react or even if they would cover it under warranty if it was to occur.

    Brushy.

Time for a good Offspring quote here:
"It all keeps adding up I think I'm cracking up! Am I just paranoid? Or am I just stoned?"
  15. #75
Could be paranoia, but after looking at KJKramer's crack pixs, I seem to detect an small incipient notch betwen my volume button and camera button. The notch is from the backcover side. I'll monitor it.

Regarding possible causes for the cracking ...
    (1) Someone hypothesize it could be due to heavy pressure during difficult removing of the back cover.
    (2) Could it be from pressure on the TreoPro kept in trousers pocket?
    (3) Or pressure on the TreoPro while in belt sideways holster?
    regards, sabre23t =^.^=

Wao, it looks like the material of he molding housing its not strong enough to sustain the friction when removing the battery (for example) it creates a warp effect (what they were referring as torque). Man, I'm really freaked out since I'm supposed to get my TP today.

The infraction was for inappropriate language, as I have explained to him in my previous post.

While we understand you can get upset and frustrated if something like this happens to you, it does not warrent the use of bad language and swearing.

There is no rule against saying 'I hate palm', plenty of users have done that, and that is fine.
But we do expect you to keep the language clean.

perhaps its a good idea to track the serial numbers of the units that have develloped a crack and their geographical location.
Maybe we can find out if there is a bad batch or if it is cause by bad luck or by they way the TP is handled (dont mean abuse, but see possible causes above)

So if you have develloped a crack please post:

When you bought it, where you bought it, when the problem started develloping, the serial number.

Did you guys carry those Treos naked? Just curious since maybe a tight fitting case may have exerted extra stress on the already thin plastic frame.

Ah, yes, I was looking back to his first post, I missed that one. That's fair do's, then, that's infracting alright.
