Yeah, I agree, those cracks are bad. I would send it back for those, too. Good luck.
Currently using a Treo Pro with Seidio's holster.

Not bad. Stop using it as a football!
Gotta love technology... you blink and everything changes.

The crack near the silencer switch is exactly where I would expect it. At the end of the bend/curve, so not only where the material is the thinnest (due to the bending), but where it's likely to take the most force if dropped or if any pressure was applied to it.

The area near the volume button looks to be very narrow, it may not have enough support to avoid being cracked. The design being a separate back piece would mean that it's a very thin area, while the 800w has a unified back piece.

That's really a shame though. I'd be extremely upset if that was my phone. I've beat on my 650, 700wx, and 800w more times than I can count and all of them have held up incredibly well. If the Treo Pro can't take that sort of (relatively mild) abuse, it's definitely not going to be an option for many people.

x2 on the suggestions about getting this serviced as warranty work from Palm.

But I have been so careful to protect my treo pro with a soft bag when I put it in my pocket everyday. And now, when it just passed 30 days, a few cracks show up along the sides of my TP.

This is really ridiculous! Now I understand why palm is doomed to fail!!!!

    IT IS OVER!!!!!
Do you mind to take a few pictures and upload them here? My two boys "abuse" my TP every night before goes to sleep, luckily they play it on bed. I will not allow them to play anymore, but will be extra careful from now now on...

I agree. My 650 and 680 took immense abuse and both still work flawlessly. They both look like crap but no cracks!! I baby my TP and crackola galore... go figure...

Personally, I would also be extremely upset if I paid this much for a phone, expecting not only advanced features but ALSO high-end quality. I agree with those who posted here that it would be worth following up with Palm itself, for warranty issues. If they balk and state it must have been misuse or abuse, just point them to this forum.

As for people not believing you about the cracks, I guess that's not how I read those posts requesting pictures. Going back over them, I felt it was more that people just wanted to know what to look for, and perhaps also see how bad the cracks could get in their own phones if they hadn't started to crack already. It's up to you whether or not you post pictures or not. But, I don't believe anyone here is intentionally trying to question your credibility or make fun of you. I'm sorry if that impression was given.

Simmer down TreoPq! Jeepers! Folks on this forum are ALWAYS willing to help, offer ideas and are willing to take time to present ideas that often help many other posters.

No one is saying they don't believe you have a device with case cracks, they just want to see what it is you are so upset about.

Its no fun shucking out bucks for a great device and then seeing it develop issues in a very short time. Case cracks should be an easy swap out at your local dealer. It is quite conceivable that there was a bad production run of plastic cases and the small stress cracks showing up so quickly can be easioly rectified with a swap of the case at your dealer.

Getting mad and cussing out people who are offering helpful ideas or their own experiences is NOT going to win you any support, and likely not to get you many further ideas.

Personally, once you have a new case exchanged for your device, I'd suggest you invest in either a protective case, or at the very least an invisi-shield or a protective layer from skinit.com; both items have been reviewed and discussed on this site.

I designed my own skinit for my Centro and am very happy with the fit, the ease of use and its apparent protective abilities. It adds practically zero thickness to the device, whereas a case can become a bulky nuisance.

Don't be so quick to jump down others throats, especially when you are seeking help. We've all been in a spot that has us frustrated with our new devices but coming here for help often turns out to be a better problem solver than going to the carrier or the dealer.

Unfortunately in your situation, you DO need to go back to the dealer for rectification.BUt it should be a straight forward simple case exchange. Good luck!

    Cheers,
    Kim

Treopq, please take it easy. I and others on the forum do feel your PAIN. I considered myself an "abusive" user of all mobile devices. I was trying to find out if there is any problem with my TP, it is in all block color and I just could not find any problem. (By the way, my two boys beat the s**t out of my TP every night) Perhaps your photo would show me and the folks here where and how to look for problems...

Please take it easy and we all feel your PAIN... (it is an expensive toy...)

On another thought, if enough of us find the same / similar problem with the TP, then all of us will have a much stronger case to go back to Palm together... We are only trying to help...

Well, I would post that link but looks like the forum site will not let me until I get 10 posts. LOL
Sorry about that, that is (hopefully a temp.) measure to make it harder for spambots to spam the forum..

unfortunately there are some people out there who seem to enjoy making wild claims stating product x is the worst thing since sliced bread without backing it up without proof.
So it makes sense that people want to see pics of your cracks (got to make sure I use the plural here ) to A) make sure you are not a troll B) statisfy their curiosity on how it looks C) calm their nerves it could happen on their device...
So please dont take it personal, and dont use such language.

Is the cracking issue widespread? I'm holding back on purchasing my Treo Pro till more info comes out, especially after the whole disaster that is my first gen Zire 72's rubberised blue paint.

This is the only thread that mentions it:
    http://discussion.treocentral.com/se...archid=7957950

So I dont think it is a widespread issue..

Hard to say yet if it's an affected batch of units or all units just time-dependent. I've had my Pro for about a month and haven't seen any cracks on mine. Even after it got dropped about two feet. So hopefully it's not everyone's.

I talked to the "Tier 2" customer service lady today at 12 PST. She asked for pictures to see the problem & to look at the rest of the phone for damage is my guess. She called back a half hour later & said they would replace the phone even though it has been 6 weeks. The new phone is on the way today & should be here Wed at the latest & mine will go back. She made it clear they needed everything back which sucks since I wanted an extra charger! I am happy to be getting a new phone though & hope this one is bug & crack free. I am very happy about their effort to get me a new phone but a little peeved I had to jump through hoops to get it when it is obviously a manufacturing defect.
