Ok, i have just activated my treo 800w. it is charging as we speek. my first question and hopefully a thread for others new owners is....

What do i install / do first to improve this device?

i have read through the Registry Edits / Tweaks sticky and seen lots of cool stuff which i will try in the next coming days. lots of good stuff in there, but i am looking for the MUST HAVES. things like audio quilty hacks, battery life hacks, things that the treo out of the box should have had in the first place.

also, themes. i thought i read where users were finding the stock themes weren't as bright as some others. is this true? do we have to have 320x320 themes? maybe a linky to some good ones?

i know we can search for all of this, but with the phone being out now for 3 months, there has been alot of development.

if you would like to help a brother out, and maybe the next new guy that searchs for "1st day treo user" type stuff, please reply with some goodies.

    Thanks, Cody

BTW, what better way to up your post count than with a reply. lol

I recomend just keeping it out of the box stock for the first week or 2 so you can see how stable it is and how well it works right out of the box.

That way after you install all your hacks and start having stability problems you will not feel the need to blame the phone.

ive seen the hacks, but haven't messed with them, i used a program called MemMaid, that does the some registry hacks for you, like move PIE Cache and temp to SD Card, increase the maximum connection and other goodies. The must have APPS for the treo 800w is SPB Mobile, Airscanner Mobile Firewall, Resco Explorer and Garmin Mobile XT.

The palm usb release for sure.
The palm BT if you plan on doing voice commands over BT.
The reg change so that the end key turns off screen immediately instead of going back to Today screen first.
The reg change to enable the side button short press function (only the hold button one is enabled).
A soft reset program of your choosing.

    Those are my basics

The main 'must have' for me is Treo Alerts so I can have true vibrate on incoming calls. Without it, my Treo vibrates once and then stops.

Treo Alert is awesome. I edited the custom vibrate setting and haven't missed a call or text since. Great app and free to boot, what more could you ask for. I too, have added Today Agenda another great free app, Live Search and also did the USB battery charger update. I bought SOTI Pocket Controller-Pro and did the ringer volume hack (extreemly necessary), the hack to increase the number of text messages (most awesome) and the hack to kill the beep when you connect and disconnect to sync and charge. Only thing left would be to eliminte the beeps when use the dialpad. Found a hack to lower the noise but total silence would make me happier. All in all I'm very happy with this machine and glad I made the move from my 700p!

Thanks Mal! This really should be a sticky post. I have had my 800 for about three months now and there are some new tricks in here for me.
