This is my own personal review of the 800w when (lightly) compared with the 700wx. You should understand that I’ve sent my 800 back and I’m sticking with the 700wx. I may wait for something else or go with a sprint Q9c (no rev a though), I’m not sure yet.

    Pros:

    Screen
    Reception
    Size
    Ear piece
    Windows Mobile 6.1

    Cons:

    Battery
Speakerphone (rattles/cracks… not worthy of a $600 phone)
    Damn BATTERY!!!!
    Did I mention the battery?

800w blows my 700wx out the water when it comes to reception. No comparison in my local area. The 800w is a lot more clear to talk and does not “cut out” like the 700. I never realized what a terrible phone the 700 is until I had the 800. I’ve only used the 700 while on sprint service, so I’ve always thought it was the service. No, it is the phone. lol

Ear piece is nice and loud. I had to turn down the volume.

Screen and size speaks for themselves.

Speakerphone? You have GOT to be kidding me…. It is terrible. Palm should be ashamed.

Battery. I hate to jump on THAT bandwagon, but when people are right, they are right. Listen, when I charge a phone and talk on it for a while, then get the 5% EARLY, something is wrong. Once after I received the 5% warning I plugged in and the phone charged. Other times the phone would continue to die… on the same socket. It was inconsistent. And yes, everything was turned off.

The other part is that I don’t see why anyone would complain of the GPS. Hell, with such a poor battery, you can’t use it. Same with wifi and BT. Guess I could wait on the extended battery. Heck with you palm… this phone should have came with an extended battery.

My 700wx is inferior to the 800w in almost every way, except for in the ways it matters most to the way I (read “I”) work. I’ve already switched back to the 700wx and I love it for right now. I know the call reception is not that hot, figure I can live with it for right now. At least until I see something else I want. I think I'll wait for the updated treo 800w"x". lol

One cool thing came out of this: I purchased my first exchange account to go with my 800. I’m keeping the exchange account with www.sherweb.com on my 700wx. Exchange is simply awesome. I’ve tried hacks and cracks to get “like exchange” but the real deal is great. Best thing is I’ve not seen a great reduction in my 700’s battery life even though I have it setup to grab things immediately. Very nice….

With all that said, I'll shut my trap and get out the 800w forum... I won't be a troll....

Ok. The battery issue is one I was aware of before purchasing the battery. The only issue I have that I was not aware of: ear piece volume. When I am driving, the 800W is being fed, so that it not an issue. Speaker - I am a Bluetooth user, so that also is not an issue. Overall, this is the best WM phone of the 4 I have had.

I dropped my 800w and had to go back to my 700wx for a week, you really notice the subtle differences by going back. All is well now and I am a lot happier with the 800w now that I had this chance to compare. Glad I kept the 800w.

I have owned a 700wx, a Q9c, and the 800w (see Sig.). the 800w is EASILY the best device (let alone WM) I have ever used. With the Q9c you WILL miss the touch screen terribly. I couldn't live with the inconvenience (and thumb cramping) of the constant scrolling.
    Devices used: Palm VIIx - Tungsten T - Tungsten T3 - HP ipaq 4155 - Tungsten T5 - BB 7520 - Treo 650 - Treo 700wx - Treo 755p - Q9c - BB 8130 - Treo 800w - HTC Touch Pro - BB 8330 - BB 8520 - HTC HD2 - Palm Pre

I also had a Q and could not wait to get rid of it, I agree with you completely about that and the 800w.

Well there is that "I" and it depends on the individual. I can use GPS without end, because I have a car charger and I use the GPS when in the car. Even without the car charger, the device can run a couple hours worth of GPS and still have battery to spare. That's been my own experience.

WiFi, again the battery can go for some time, it's not like it goes 10 minutes and dies. When I use WiFi I'm usually stationary and able to use a wall charger if I need extra juice and in such cases I've been sitting in the same spot for hours.

BT, all I can say is that it works well for me. I'm a little ticked my BT headset can't keep up with the battery life of my Treo 800w. The advertised specs for my BT headset show it should last longer than the 800w, but it's been the other way around. Nothing to the point I wanted to get another headset or even return the headset, but BT usage on the 800w has been good to me.

I've used EVDO Rev. A to watch SprintTV for well over an hour at once and other short periods during the same day and the battery still have power.

But to each their own. If everybody in the world returned their Treo 800w, I've still got mine and I hope those who dump the Treo 800w find something that suits their needs.

If guess whatever floats your boat. I would shutter thinking about going back to my 700wx. It's HUGE lol. Yeah, the speaker volume sux, bur I barely use it. Besides. all I do is just turn down the volune. Kind of resolves the isue. IBattery sux, but I got and extra battery for free, plus Seidio's battery charger & Walmart's cheap $10 car charger so I have no issues mobile. The only thing I didn't like with the 700x was the BT was unstable. Sometimes the BT would turn off. It makes it unsafe to use when I'm driving and I have to use BT.

    Love the 800w. Wi-fi & GPS!!!

I typically go 10 hours and still have about 65% of my battery left. I never turn GPS to "911 only", but usually turn BT off when I'm not in the car. I also use GPS when in the car and using a car charger. I also have a spare battery, that I only use when I've hit Sprint TV or videos. I never use WiFi, simply because I virtually always have EVDO coverage here in CT.

This is easily the best phone I've had. As much as I liked my 755p, I couldn't imagine going back - when I pick up my 700p (which I sold to my son) it just feels huge.

That being said, folks have to make their own decisions about what works for them.

theog had a fair review and can't really disagree too much with it; heck I doubt Seidio's new extended slim battery would even help. At the end of the day, the 700wx could take what, a 2400mah slim battery? I mean that just kills anything out there today.

700wx is/was a great phone and with WM6, it got an extended life.

Even more, Seidio 2600mAh Extended Life Battery for Treo 700wx

It comes with an 1800mAh battery.

Yeah, they went through so many iterations I couldn't keep up.

Originally it was a 2200mah, then they updated it to a 2400mah and finally updated it again to 2600mah, lol.

    As an update....

I ended up with the Moto Q9c.

After a month or so, I don't miss a touch screen... matter of fact, I don't even know why a touch screen device exists....

Anyway, the moto is much better than the 800 or 700wx with reception. At a known location that I've not had reception since my verizon e815, my phone rang... I was a bit surprised... that was not suppose to happen. Same location, I could not even send a text message with the 800... 700 I could send text ok, but no calls. Go figure.... although, I thought it was an odd issue since the 800 did better in reception in most other places than the 700wx.

Overall, I'm 1000% happier with the moto... wonderful working with this device vs. the 700 or 800... the screen is wonderful and my exchange account rocks.

The battery life on the Q9c is phenomenal. You simply can't ask for anything better (and for free, instead of paying $50 extra for battery life). I can go days without a charge... it is great... and still small with the hump....

The moto is a better built device than the 800 or 700... now I'm waiting on the moto 11 due in dec (or so I'm told).

Good luck.... but for business, I don't see a touch screen as being a necessity... moto q9c is a great device.... true phone... I'm happier with sprint's service....

I can't see me going back to palm for years now... f you palm.

Wow, pretty harsh words. I do agree that the Moto is great. I gave mine to my wife a few months ago. Only problem with the Moto is that its a brick. Its big enough then the hump back battery. Once you get a device that works it doesn't matter if its touch screen or not. Not having a touchscreen was never a deal breaker for me.

I am surprised that I went back to the 800 and theog went non-touchscreen Moto. Must be snowing in hell.

Wise decision on the Q9c. I do wish that Motorola would do a touchscreen version like Samsung just recently did.

At least you'll be able to use your Q9c all day, hear people on the other end of your calls and have fully-functional GPS.

A brick? Even with the hump, the height is 50% less than my 700wx. it is a bit wider, but the height is much smaller.

Considering the hump on the 800 brings that device a "hair" taller than the 700wx... well, you know where I'm going.

You went back to the 800? I'm not surprised... you never did leave the forums... but sucked the life out of every thread here... I suck the life out of one thread, my own. lol.... You made it almost impossible to learn about the 800... your actions were atrocious, and your attitude not much better.

I limit myself to one thread... people can look and skip over it... if I post in every single thread, people will get tired of me and call me a troll... and the name would be fitting... thus, the name you earned.

q9c is a very nice device... tell you, it feels great to use BT all day and not have to worry about turning it off to conserve battery life. I can get my emails coming in when I want and not worry about imap accounts or exchange eating up battery life... one day I used gps for about 45 minutes and still had enough battery life to last me the rest of that day, with plenty of spare.

I don't care what anyone says, battery life is the most crucial item on a device... the 800 taught me that... well, and being able to make telephone calls.

My thought is that palm will come out with a 800wx to address the small battery and an update in Dec or Jan to address several other small issues with the 800. I don't know if any of you remember, but when the update for the 700wx came out, it basically perfected the device. I'm thinking palm will do the same for the 800.

I'm not sure about reception though... I'm not sure that can be fixed with an update... my 700wx was pretty good though.

Then again, the Q has been out for a very long time... I'm sure all those updates are out and the device perfected (in a sense).

Not sure I care about a touchscreen anymore. I don't see the need... I don't miss it... I do miss not having a stylus as a pen (or is it pen as a stylus?). lol

You compared the size of the Moto to a 3 year old device (700wx). Goes to show how big it is. I have the Q, well the wife does now and I like it alot. You get testy when someone says anything negative about whatever device your using.

You think this thread was really appropriate, like people cared that you left the 800? You come back to give Palm the finger and I'm the troll? I have the attitude problem? Pretty hypocitical to me, you just did the same thing.

Funny enough, you still don't get it, as you did not get it then....

You were in every 800 thread. That is the difference.

Everyone on the forum knew you moved to blackberry... not because we can see into the future, because you stated that in EVERY thread.

Of course, you did not get this then, and you won't get it now.

Main difference is that everyone can avoid what I say because it is limited to one thread.... a thread I created. I'm not trolling every thread on the forum.

I'm not sure how to make it anymore basic for you to understand.

Anyway, I'm comparing what palm has out. If they have a 10-year-old device they are selling, then I'll compare that. Time means nothing... hell, palm is STILL selling the 700wx!!! And? Your point? Exactly...

I don't care if anyone does not care if I left... I'm simply filling in the blanks for those that may be looking for another device... give them a bit of info on a device that I'm using... that is what the net is all about. Of course, there is a right and wrong way to go about it... and trolling every thread is definitely not the right now.

Far as me getting "testy." Yes, when someone states something that is not true, then I will correct them. If you call it testy, then so be it.

Now stop trolling my thread and go on about your business....

Since I'm a troll I can't go about my business. I've had several threads that you dove into as well running your mouth and I didn't care. So I will do the same. Like you say, that is what the net is all about. Since you owned an 800 at the time you had to defend it until the end. Now you've got something else its **** Palm. That's all I was saying. I'm down with that, been there. Oh and I do get that you own a brick, its no big deal because I have one too. You can use it for personal protection by hurling it at someone. Probably take down a bear with it. You can compare it to whatever the hell you want, bag phone, car phone, whatever you fancy. It really is a good phone just needs a smaller shell. It isn't something you can put in your pocket, more like a backpack or duffle bag. I hear the Q11 will be close to the size of the 800 (golf clap). Good luck with your Q.
