When I use the sync cable I noticed it takes unplugging and reinserting the cable 2-3 times for it to finnaly sync and give me a light. Anyone know why it takes so many times for it to finnaly realize I'm trying to sync and not charge.

Should I be taking back my phone?

A lot of us are seeing that happen, no reason to give phone back.

I would disagree. I had issues with the computer not recognizing the 800 was connected. I took it back and receive another and no issues whatsoever regarding AS. It seems the cable that came with the new one is "heavier duty." I can't say for certain as I don't have them for a direct comparison, but this one sure is stiffer and seems thicker and more substantial.

I recommend trying another 800 before you just accept it as normal.

By the way, I found out through experiment that the screen has to be active and unlocked or else AS wouldn't connect.
