I've noticed my Treo 800w won't wake up from sleep mode on occassion. I haven't been able to determine if its software or hardware related, but I've experienced this both on a new setup without any installed programs, as well as after I've installed all my apps. Screen saver/ no screen saver doesn't seem to make a difference. Hitting the center button, power, talk, start - none of them will wake up the screen as they normally do when this happens. The only thing I have stumbled into that does wake it up, is by switching the top ringer/vibrate switch off and on, which is at least better than having to yank the battery.

Curious if any of ya'll have experienced this? I'm thinking I should I return the unit as defective and give another unit a go. Not sure I'm up to dealing with Sprint today though... Any thoughts out there?

    Thanks

It has happened to me a few times. It seems to happen during times when fiddling with the configuration and/or installing/removing applications. Now that I've settled on a configuration and applications it seems no longer to be an issue.

I believe a few others have experienced this as well. The resolution seems to be flipping the vibrate switch and/or plugging in the charger.

I've had this a few times, though not in the last couple of weeks, oddly enough. It happened the very first night I charged my 800w. When I go to turn on the 800w, I hold down the power button for a good half-second at least, until the screen turns on, which may help. I'm not sure if having a fully-conditioned battery is what has made a difference, or ???...but the thing has been stable for awhile. Of course now that I say that it'll probably happen tomorrow morning.

When it happened to me, flipping the vibrate switch and plugging the charger did nothing - every time, I had to pull the battery and re-insert. Those are the times I really wish Palm had just put a soft reset button somewhere accessible from the outside of the case.

The same thing happened to me the first night I had my 800w! At first I thought it was a hardware issue, but I think it's actually a software issue. If a program intallation, etc stalls while it goes into sleep mode, there's no way to get it out without pulling the battery. It appears to be a hardware problem because the screen isn't on, but even so, software is still running and can cause things to freeze. The Treo is never actually 'off,' unless you phsically pull the battery.

Knock on wood, I've had it for a month and it's never happened again. Do you have any 3rd party apps that could be causing it to hang and not wake up?

This happened to me quite frequently after installing phonealarm. After unintalling it, it completely stopped. You have that installed by any chance?

Just happened to me just now. I had to remove the battery and reboot. Didn't try switching the vibrate button on and off. Will need to try next time.

After restarting it are you getting a message saying that an app failed with the option to send a report to Microsoft? I get this on occasion and it is always im.exe that caused it.

The IM issue on startup is a separate thing, and can be resolved by removing OZ instant messaging from the startup folder. I'm not ruling out OZ as the root cause, though I suspect more people would be complaining were it to be.

This is what I have installed. Any common denominator?

    SplashData SpashID for Pocket PC
    Microsoft Office Communicator Mobile
    OZ Instant Messaging
    Astraware Bejeweled 2
    Astraware Casino
    HTC Diamond Alert Sounds
    HTC Diamond Ring Sounds
    TranCreative Magic Button
    Handmark Express
    My Mobiler v1.23
    Windows Live is configured
    Sprite Backup is used heavily
    Outlook is configured with Exchange

As I recall I have had this happen four times and have had to pull the battery to revive her. Of the four times I can remember, 3 happened right after it came off the charger in the morning or after a long period of time. The other time was in the middle of the day (as I went to show it off to someone). It hasn't happened in a while and it has happened at various stages of my customization of the phone, so no idea what software it may be, but I know that one happened about 3 days after I got it and the phone was virgin at that time. I don't even think I had my contacts imported yet.

This has happened to me a couple of times as well. Not sure what causes it but moving the ring/vibrate switch on top seems to be the trick. My 700wx used to do this from time to time and just like this one I could never trace it one certain thing. Just the way it is I guess.

Damn, the TC jinx has struck again....only when I comment in threads about issues I haven't had in a while, I get the issue. Phone tried to turn into a paperweight again. I accidentally ran the battery down to 9% and stuck it on the charger. I left it and checked it in a few minutes and it was dead, but still plugged in. I removed the battery and got it to restart, though as it did, it acted like a hard reset and asked if I wanted to clear all the data...

I have been having issues all day. I made two substantive changes yesterday and have removed one to try to narrow it down, but again another time this thing has done its brick impression while on the charger.

When I install\uninstall programs, make registry changes and do several soft resets, my 800 slows down and is really slow to wake up. It is back to normal after running memmaid and\or pmclean.

It happened to me a while back. Ringer switch and/or plugging in or/out would shock it back to usability.

I decided to do a hard reset....and was unable. Replaced the device.

phonedude, the only thing we have in common is Exchange (!). I suspect it's not an "installed app" issue but more of a WM / battery charging / power system issue.
