Personally, I think the 800w looks more elegant and professional than the Pro. I can see how the Treo Pro will appeal to the iPhone market, but that's just not me.

I use a Jabra BT3030 for music and phone calls, so the 3.5mm jack on the Pro does nothing for me but actually tether me to the device.

After making a few tweaks, the 800w battery life is fine, thanks.

It appears that the Pro is actually made and possibly even designed by HTC. That could be a plus to some, but coming off an Apache and a Mogul, I worry about build quality.

And I much, much prefer my Treo 800w keyboard to the Centro-like gummy keys on the Treo Pro.

So, no, I wouldn't take my 800w back.

The Pro puts the 800w to shame. Over 30% greater battery life while still being thinner. Capacitive keys and probably has a quality LCD, working standalone GPS and can be used as a phone. The 3.5mm jack is so nice.

I would take my 800w back and pay extra just to get the Pro.

Heres an interesting question maybe someone has a answer to. How can they make a more powerfull battery in a smaller form. the phone is thinner so the compartment for the battery must be thinner and the battery would technically be thinner or maybe the same size.

The 800w is better than the Pro for the simple fact of the Pro using a Centro keypad. No thanks. The 800w is the best deivce Sprint has right now and with a few tweaks/downloads/regedits, it performs like a champ. I do with the 800w came with a 1500mAh battery though.

I want to say I do not have an 800w. I still have my 700wx.

    But..

IF I did have an 800 I would not trade it for an 850.
I like the recessed screen for safety and the ability to hold onto a screen protector w/o ripping it off.
I like the larger keyboard and will never use a centro sized keyboard.
    I like the blockier design.

That being said I do like the larger battery on the 850.
And I am glad to see Palm redesigning things to catch a new crowd.

But who says that this device will not have problems too?
    We will see.

Is it just me, or do other folks find the 800w to be a better looking phone too? I mean the 850 just looks cheap.

Dude, old school BMWs look much better than the current crop of Bangalized cars. I mean to show you it is a matter of preference, looks are. I will also argue that new BMWs do much more than old school. But, then again you did not mention how old school you are going.

I also choose the 800w looks over the cheap looking plastic blob.

Hopefully the 850 will have true standalone GPS and we can compare the files and reghacks to get it working on the "ugly duckling".

I would take the looks & battery of the 850 mix it with the keyboard and screen of the 800.

    Agreed!

Maybe the 850 will have better ear piece sound when in a call and we can figure out how to fix it on the 800.

The 800w looks classier, imo. That's not saying I think the 850 looks bad...not at all, but what the 850 looks like is everything else on the market.

It's a BB/HTC clone and that's what everyone wants. Just like the lame "shiny black slab" phenom that is going on, which everyone denies is related to the iPhone

And lets be honest: that 3.5mm "hole" in the bottom looks huge! It's like someone drilled into the damn device. Looks like I could get a cheeto stuck in there, lol.

It sounds like the issues are:

    - Looks: that depends on taste
    - Battery Life: obviously the battery on the 850 is bigger. I have no idea of there's a difference in use of resources for GSM vs. CMDA. But IMO the email settings fix for the 800w makes battery life not a real issue anymore.
    - Keyboard: I could be wrong, but I think the 800 is a clear winner here. It's possible that the Centro style of keyboard may be easier to use if the size were closer to the Treo's (and it looks to me that this will be the case with the Pro).
    - Screen: It looks like the size is better on the 800, and the recessed screen is a matter of preference.

So (to get back to the initial question), I'd be willing to bet that, as in all things), it's a question of personal preference, and nobody will convince another person that their opinion is right.

This might not be the case anymore. But, back before 3G and EVDO, when it was GSM/GPRS vs CDMA/1xRTT, I remember reading that CDMA required more power.

Capacitive keys? Where'd you get that? "Probably has a quality LCD"? Are you on crack? Is the Treo Pro made out of candy too, and instead of a Lithium Ion battery, runs on dreams and starlight?

Sorry, I just can't take you seriously. We'll just start a timer until you realize that the Treo Pro will have it's own set of flaws, doesn't measure up to your crazy expectations and you start cursing the day it first appeared on Palm's design boards.

Exactly! I can see how the Treo Pro will score with the "look how shiny!" iPhone crowd, but I think the 800w looks far more elegant and professional.

Exactly, Mal. The 800w looks classy. The 850 looks "klassy with a K".

I personally think the treo 850 is ugly and I don't know why. The send and end button just don't do it for me either. I like the way the back the phone is and the where the buttons are located

lmao, I added that goof to my ignore list weeks ago so I missed this...

Hilarious. for those curious why we are laughing, click here and see if this jives with what you know about any WM device on the market (not even HTC has this on their devices, just Apple AFAIKAFAIKAFAIK--$not$ even the Omnia.)

Indeed, from the "spy shots" the screen actually looks washed out as of right now, but I'll reserver final judgment till it's actually released. But so far my impression is not exactly me being blown away. Either way I'm sure I'd be fine with it.

We're not talking about the keyboard here, but the app keys. The keys on the Diamond and Touch Pro are capacitive, and allow HTC to do some neat stuff (like focusing the camera when your finger is 1mm above the dpad, and take the shot when you actually touch it). And the presence of things like the HTC task manager and what looks suspiciously like HTC's comm manager on the Treo Pro lends weight to the idea that it was actually designed and built by HTC.

But that's a long way from assuming that the Treo Pro will have capacitive keys. I think nsxprime is basing this on the fact that it's really hard to see the seams between the keys on a black device. That doesn't rule out flexible keys with no actual seams, like the LifeDrive or Centro.

Which means it will sell more.

IMO the biggest differences are the headset jack and larger battery, not the looks or the fluff, but I am sure I am in the minority.

I'm also not sure slimmer is better since the 800w is already pushing the boundary of typeability. But again, slimmer will sell more to the toy crowd.
