    I don't think anyone is saying that folks shouldn't voice their displeasure...it's about the continual complaining about the same issues in multiple threads. Repeated the concern again and again on a message board doesn't promote a solution.

    I don't think the complaining about GPS (a legitimate issue) has been so bad at all. Far less than the complaining about battery life (an illegitimate issue because it's fully documented in the specs).

    If I needed stand alone GPS, I'd make more noise than Aero .

    The solution is for Palm to fix it.

    I absolutely agree that this would be the best solution; I just question whether spamming the boards on any issue is the best path towards that solution.

    After reviewing the thread a little, it seems the problem starts out like this:

    1. Someone says that they're disappointed/upset/unhappy that the 800w doesn't have true standalone GPS

    2. Someone else comes back saying something like "well you're not gonna need it most of the time" or "just take it back if you don't like it"

    That sequence of events is usually what triggers all the debate/argument/flaming about the GPS. Start with post #192.

    I don't think people are really spamming the boards with the GPS issue, it's just that if someone mentions it once, someone else starts to argue the importance of the issue or starts asking if they're just complaining to complain.

    Exactly.

    There are some people working on the issue or making other suggestions... they are being drowned out by the continuous complainers....

    yeh but theres no "fixes" or suggestions at this time i can see in any thread. No one has tried to go into the registry and look. And theres no real alternative solution to gps. If it was the battery sure you could suggest 10 fixes or alternative. whats the fix for gps? spend more money for a bluetooth? thats not an option for everyone to go spend more money. The phone was said to have gps which it does but not standalone it should have. to some people it is a valid issue without a good alternative to suggest.

    A class action/law suit is not a good alternative either. Those take years to go through and dont help anyone except the lawyer's pockets. Plus the resources in the first place to start the suit. But i know 100% for a fact what they did was illegal business practices, but as a law student i cant personally start any suits on the communities behalf. making people aware of the problem is the best first course of action because you have to have a following of people who recognize the problem to do anything about it. Masses always have a lot more pull than 1 person.

    i agree with Trevante its the people ridiculing the people posting about gps not working who are starting the battle for no reason. if people have something to say let them say it, whos it hurting? no one. but when people discount other's experiences they have to defend themselves out of human nature and it turns into a 100 post debate off topic. just let people vent what they want to vent and move on or respond to another post, or better yet move back on topic and move on.

    Actually, it is not that all are complainers... complaining is a good thing... the issue, as repeated over and over, are the ones who go to every thread and post the same thing over and over... it is ridiculous.

    It hurts this forum and threads when people do that since they drown out any honest discussion on the issue and hopefully a potential temp fix. Makes this forum look like a bunch of whiners... which I guess we are. lol

    nothing wrong with whining its a place to vent issues. I see no detriment to having people complain and vent their issues. its not hurting anyone other than i think there are some people here who have a little too much loyalty to a piece of plastic and wires than needed.

    Wow...you're not getting it. It's not about loyalty it's about keeping threads helpful and productive. Posting a complaint about a product and/or specific function is helpful....posting over and over in multiple threads is not. Go back and slowly reread theog's last post.

    The continual complaints about GPS helped me to understand not only the issue, but more about how GPS can be used. I'm glad those who complained about it refused to listen to those who told them to stop. I've found it to be very helpful.

    What some are calling bad regarding GPS, I've found to be the good honest and helpful discussion.

    Complaining in every thread is ridiculous... this thread is so far off topic, I doubt if you even realized it is off topic. There does happen to be a "GPS" thread....

    You are one of the main people responsible, so of course you would agree with klmsu19.

    But I'm kinda done... this is getting boring...

    Maybe the mods will finally do something.... take care... and good luck with your gps, that just so happens to be a phone and organizer.

    How about you take a moment to read more of my comments in this thread? Many have been on the topic of whether or not I wanted a Treo Pro.

    Yes there have been RELATED side discussions, one being about the differences in GPS. The Treo Pro has a true stand alone and assisted GPS, the Treo 800w does not.

    If my talking about the GPS means I've contributed to being off topic, so be it, I'll continue. Because I find it to be good related discussion.

    Like allow the discussion about a real issue to continue. (This is real relative difference between the Treo 800w and Treo Pro.) It's also an e-mail and web surfing device, I also use mine as a back scratcher .

    I have to agree with Darnell. Since reading the posts in the GPS thread I wound up doing lots of research on the subject. I find the subject very interesting even after I returned my device. I don't see it as whining at all. This is a message forum. Those uninterested in this subject can avoid 1 thread on this board. The subject has come up in this thread obviously but I as many of the users replying are wondering if the Pro will have the uncrippled version the 800 should have. I actually find it amusing, the members calling others "whiners" in a thread are cluttering up the boards just as much with "stop whining" posts.
    ATT History- From 1997-2001-> Nokia 6362->Motorola StarTac->Nokia 8260.

    Nextel History From 2001-2004-> Motorola i1000-> Motorola i90c-> Motorola i95cl-> Motorola i730->Motorola i850.

    Sprint History From 2005 - Currently->Sanyo 5500-> Sanyo 5600-> Sanyo-> 7400->Sanyo 8300->Sanyo->7500-> Sanyo 9000->Sanyo 8400->Sanyo M1->PPC-6700->Treo 700wx->PPC-6800(Mogul)-> Motorola Q9C-> Treo 800w-> Curve->Treo 800w->Touch Pro->Treo Pro> Curve "M"->HTC Hero.

    I'm new to Treo from the PPC 6700 (both on Sprint). I bought the Treo because my 6700 died after 3 years and the Treo 800w seemed like the most versatile windows mobile phone available. I should have just gone with a refurbished 6700. The Treo is by far the worst, least reilable phone I've ever owned. I'm on my second one (USB port on the first one didn't work). It randomly shuts down and won't restart then just as randomly comes back on as if it were reset, randomly won't charge via wall charger, USB or car charger and the battery last about 4 hours tops. It's a nightmare. I am going to try Sprint's Diamond the moment it comes out but for sure I'm getting rid of the Treo P.O.S.

    ocbizlaw - Sorry to hear your Treo is not working well. Many of the issues you described are abnormal, although the battery life is fully documented in the specs. Hate to say it, but you really need to get yet another replacement.
  18. #258
    Yes, another replacement would be a good idea.

    Also, Palm just released an update that may fix your charging issues.
    a740 --> a900 --> Katana --> a900 --> a900m --> M1 --> a900m --> PPC6700 --> a900m--> 8400 --> a900m --> Treo 700wx --> Treo 800w

    ocbizlaw is having issues with the device shutting down for no reason, that sounds like my first one that I had to get replaced and the charging patch won't do a thing about that. ocbizlaw needs another replacement, fast. I mean like in the Sprint store first thing in the AM.

    Exactly right. The 800w has some legitimate bugs and major limitations that deserve to be addressed. The 800w fanboys are quick to put down every other phone but defend their own phones with rabid furor.
