    I thought I'd post up some of the more interesting keys I found. I waded through the entire HKLM and HKCU. Phew, that's a lot of lines.

    Note that changing some of these settings can be dangerous. Don't do this unless you know what you're doing. I don't take any responibility if one of these screws up your device. Etc etc etc, blah blah blah, insert standard disclaimers here.

    I've added comments for some keys, but a lot of them are pretty straight forward....

    Some keys are displayed as their hex value (IE: dword:0000001e). You can either use a converter, or most decent registry programs should show you both values. I usually reference any changes in decimal for simplicity.

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\SprintTV]

    "Session"="1"
    "AllowStreamingInBackground"="1"
    "FullScreenModeByDefault"="1"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Pictures\Camera\OEM]
    "HideFullScreenMenu"=dword:00000000
    "EnableWhiteBalance"=dword:00000000
    "EnableVideoZoom"=dword:00000000
    "FitWindow"=dword:00000000
    "EnableBrightness"=dword:00000001

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Pictures\Camera\OEM\WhiteBalance\5]
    "Value"=dword:00000005
    "ItemString"="Incandescent"
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Pictures\Camera\OEM\WhiteBalance\4]
    "ItemString"="Fluorescent"
    "Value"=dword:00000004
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Pictures\Camera\OEM\WhiteBalance\3]
    "ItemString"="Sunny+Cloudy"
    "Value"=dword:00000003
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Pictures\Camera\OEM\WhiteBalance\2]
    "ItemString"="Cloudy"
    "Value"=dword:00000002
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Pictures\Camera\OEM\WhiteBalance\1]
    "ItemString"="Sunny"
    "Value"=dword:00000001

    Suggested changes:
    I recommend incrementing the values so that instead of WhiteBalance\1 being 1 and WhiteBalance\5 being 5, you have WhiteBalance\1 as 1 and WhiteBalance\5 as 10. You cannot go over 10.

    There is a *MUCH* bigger difference between 1 and 10 than there is between 1 and 5.

    You can also rename them to something that makes a bit more sense or simply add the value at the end.

    This one's for you, Mal.

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\TexasInstruments\Multimedia\Video\Playback]
    "FramesPerSec"=dword:0000001e

    Note: I haven't tested this key.

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\ROTATION]
    "HideOrientationUI"=dword:00000001
    "Angle"=dword:00000000

    You can set HideOrientationUI to 0 if for some strange reason you want to be able to rotate the screen. Maybe you learned to type on th planet Querzux where they use the qwerty keyboard, but upside down?

    Battery/Power

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Palm\BatteryIndicator\WarningLevel1]
    "Message"="Battery level is very low (less than 5%)"
    "RepeatIntervalSeconds"=dword:0000012c
    "PercentRange"="5, 0"
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Palm\BatteryIndicator\WarningLevel0]"Message"="Battery level is low (less than 10%)"
    "RepeatIntervalSeconds"=dword:00000258
    "PercentRange"="10, 5"

    You can change at what point you get notified that you're running out of battery. For me, when I hit 10% it's too late, so I upped the WarningLevel0 to 25, 10, and changed WarningLevel0 to 10, 0. This way I get notified at 25% battery instead of 10%, so I can start plannng out when I need to charge.

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Palm\Battery]
    "ChargingMaxMilliVolt"=dword:0000109a
    "ChargingMinTemperature"=dword:00000001
    "ChargingMaxTemperature"=dword:0000002d
    "CriticallyHighTemperature"=dword:00000037
    "HighTemperature"=dword:0000002d

    These keys are seriously dangerous.

    It appears that these are measured in celcius, so the max is set by default at 45.

    Theoretically you could increase it, if you find your phone won't charge when being used heavily while plugged in. I do not recommend this. While it will let your phone charge when the battery is hot, you can also damage your battery, phone, or even cause the battery to explode. These are set for a reason, and if you increase them don't do so more than maybe 5*.

    Same for charger disconnect.

    GUI/Today Screen

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\TaskBar]
    "LimitedClock"=dword:00000000

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\PALM\CARRIER\DialLookupPlugin\RSSI]
    "FiveBarLevel"=dword:00000050

    "ThreeBarLevel"=dword:00000030
    "TwoBarLevel"=dword:00000020
    "OneBarLevel"=dword:00000010

    This appears to control how many bars you see, so you can set it for something more meaningful to you. I haven't actually played with these settings...

    Change scroll bar size

    Navigate to HKey_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GWE\ and tweak the following values.
    cyHScr : Horizontal Scrollbars Height in pixels (default is 13)
    cxVScr : Vertical Scrollbars Width in pixels (default is 13)

    Phone

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\PALM\CARRIER\ActiveCallPlugin]
    "ResetVoicemailCountOnDial"=dword:00000000

    Probably only useful if you get "stuck" voicemail counts often.

    HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\StandardInCallVolume

    within each of these keys the default 'Script' value is 'p' for 'play'

    Change the 'Script' value to blank (erase the 'p')

    SMS/E-mail/MMS/etc

    To change # of characters in a text message

    [HKLM\software\palm\varnish\messaging\sms]
    MaxCharsPerMsg=160
    MaxPartsPerMsg=1
    MaxRecipients=10
    GetNumCharsPerMessageSMS=160

    Change the MaxPartsPerMsg to 10 (from 1) and it will allow you 10 messages (1600 total characters). You can increase/decrease as you see fit from there.

    Internet

    Increase "Maximum number of concurrent connections" in PIE. (Not recommended to set past ~10 as it can saturate and kill sites.)

    One of the most common and effective tweaks for web browsers on the desktop is also possible for IE on WM5. Stored in the registry are two keys which tell Internet Explorer how many connections it should make to a server when downloading a web page. They define the "Maximum number of concurrent connections" and they're just itching for a tune-up.

    By [Creating] the following [DWord] key:

    HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Main/MaxRequestThreads = 5

    to a value higher than the default (5) will enable greater bandwidth saturation during page download and a noticable improvement in page load time. I took a guess and raised the MaxThreads to 10 and have had no problems (thus far).

    [Update] Also, you will want to add the dword value:

    HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Main/MaxConnectionsPerServer

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]
    "ClearTypeText"=dword:00000000

    Setting to 1 makes text in IE look purdy.

    Unknown, but possibly interesting keys

    Here are some keys that I've found that could use more testing (or I'm too lazy to test ). If someone wants to try them out and post results (or lack there-of), that'd be cool.

    Most of these I've Googled for, and either found no or little information on them.

    Possibly.

    Maybe it's related to Sprint TV?

    I'm not sure why the time servers would be needed though...or some of the other settings.... (such as SMS)

    The keys that reference RIL (activecall and the microsoft one) seem to be related to the Radio Interface Layer

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms890075.aspx

    Also while looking for the VolServ.dll I found this... it is in some cyrillic english hybrid... I hope someone can translate because while it does not provide any info on the VolServ.dll, it seems to provide a lot of of info on other dlls, nicely put in one spot.

    http://64.233.169.104/search?q=cache...Serv.dll&hl=en

    The actual excel file it comes from has more that the cached page and can be downloaded here (which seems to mirror treocentral):

    And good work Ebag... My eyeballs are spinning from reading your work.. I can only imagine wading thru the registry

    The SQM stuff is system quality metrics (I think). Here is some discussion of that:

    Change the timeout of the keyguard screen (the "Press center to unlock" screen).
    Code:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Palm\KeyGuard
    DisplayTimeout = 5000
    Adjust as needed (it's in milliseconds seconds so the default is 3000, or 3 seconds).

    Thought this might be useful as I wanted to change this myself.

    Nice. I've been keeping a running log of the Reg Edits I'm making so I can replicate if ever need be.

    I just realized there's one I need to go back and find -- the key/value that stops Windows Media Player from defaulting to playing WMV vids sideways when launched in full screen mode.

    I'm using TCPMP now, including for WMV, but still would like to capture what I changed for WMP. Anybody know what I'm referencing?

    Edit, Found it:

    The big fix, that every Dash/Excalibur owners have been waiting for, and which was the big thorn in the whole wm6 official upgrade by T-Mobile. When you wanted to watch full screen video, you had to turn your Dash sideways to view the video.[not SlingPayer video]! We have a fix for the 90 degree screen rotation! Here it is: Add the following new Key "Rotation" under HKLM\System\GDI e.g. [HKLM\System\GDI\Rotation] Then add this Dword "LandscapeMode" =0 Now you can watch Orb, movies and any video you like in full screen without any rotation of the screen, most Dash/Excalibur owners have three media players on their device, SlingPlayer, windows media player and the TCPMP player!

    "ClearTypeText"=dword:00000000

    Setting to 1 makes text in IE look purdy.
    Just making sure am i creating a dword value or a new key for the MaxRequestThreads
