is it a bad decision to buy this phone now? what if the major issues get resolved with a new "edition"?

should I get sprint protection for a few months ?

What major issues are you referring to? I have it, and love it.

Does anyone recall this scenario happening before on a previous device? i.e. updated H/W to address "issues". Obviously, there will be firmware updates. . .

Wasn't the 700w, Palms first attempt at WM phone? If so, I don't see a need for a 800wx. Maybe just firmware upgrades.

There are minor issues for the most part. The 700w was an embarrassment to Palm that should never have been released. This was made even more obvious when the 700wx with the right amount of RAM became one of the best-performing WM phones upon its release.

The 800w is far from the failure the 700w was.
